My work isnt directly involved with the auto industry, but alot of our customers are, and especially being so close to broady the flow on effects will be big.

Well with mineral and energy prices going soft the Australian economy will be under pressure!
I guess in 2017 we should start driving commodores. This happened under Labor's watch. I vaguely recall that govt leases used to be required to be Australian-made. They relaxed that several years ago. Hope we dont become like Greece! |

All this talk of buying Holdens now? Geez i am glad you guys are not watching my back! What makes you think brand x are in any better shape? They are having to drop 10k off the VF just to try and gain an interest, how long can they do that for? The cruze has not sold like expected either? I say buy the Australian made Ford that you want and get a bunch of parts for it as well, and go enjoy what is now a unique motor car.

I'll buy a VF when I'm in the position to purchase a new car, which will be soon enough. Screw Ford turn and run with their tails between their legs when the going gets tough. Screw them I'm really angry about this more than anything.

Wonder if the Falcon or Territory nameplate will live on. If Australian engineers can have an input into a RHD Taurus or Fusion, we might still have a car worth buying

I guess there goes Bathurst/V8 Supercar racing before long...as a car nut prior to the 1st Falcon its a sad end to an era, but outside of RWD they have an ever improving line.

The beauty of the new V8SC common chassis is that it makes it far easier for a manufacturer to develop a race car. If Ford imported the Taurus as a replacement, it could run that. Chrysler looks to be confirmed, Mercedes and Nissan are committed, rumours of yet another possible entry...the category is extremely healthy!

Many educated iGen myself included are car enthusiasts, and crave RWD.
Just look at how well received the Toyota 86 has been - an affordable well performing RWD car! The new direction of V8SC with new manufacturers has opened the sport up to a whole new audience. Many of my friends who formerly considered it a dumb bogan sport are now excited about it.

This is very prescient. It is one of the three reasons Ford as a manufacturer died. The other two are woeful marketing of a very good product and appalling after sales service from the dealers; responses of "they all do that" has cost them dearly. Today was the consequence of those actions.

There's clearly value in the marketing side of V8SC, otherwise Nissan, Chrysler and others would not be interested in taking part.

I think its disgusting some of the posts in here...
Some seem happy that they "predicted" this and are seemingly rejoicing in the fact. That, and yhe sinking in of the teeth over the "bad" desisions etc. The focus should be on victoria...and how its going to effect families and buisness connected to the industry. Australia is going to loose one of the longest continual manufacturer's...sad day indeed. There is little joy in this, but we have to chin up and appreciate the glorious past and one final hurrah!

It's an incredibly sad day for the workers of Ford's manufacturing plants, who will now need to seek alternative employment in the years to come. My father has a toolmaking/manufacturing business and in years past did a LOT of work for Mitsu, Ford, Holden etc. That has largely gone offshore now, and over time, local cars have been built using more and more foreign sourced parts. You might say our 'true blue' Falcon/Commodore has become increasingly foreign without most people even knowing it.

This is really sad news. I learnt to drive in a Homebush build Ford Laser and now cruise around in a BA Falcon. May family has always owned Fords and after introducing my European wife to the Falcon she is amazed at what you get for your money in Australian cars. It just shows that no matter how good your product lots of marketing $$'s from other companies will always win.

The irony is that Ford US have trimmed back summer holidays due to increased demand.

If the yanks got to test drive and really experience the superiority of the FG, they (Ford) would need another plant to meet the demand!!!! Then they could export back to us, at a lower cost........ Very sorry for the workers and their families, been there (BHP 1982). Hang in there guys.....(& girls).
