yes,i think your right,
the kids in this case were just being kids and 4x4 owner was acting like a moron and should be charged,
i bet no hooning takes place in his street anymore after all the local towns here about what happened, and that might be good .but now they might drive past house fast during the day to annoy him, which will make his street dangerous for kids thus defeating his actions in a worse way than anyone invisages.
Police by not charging 4x4 owner are sending the young a dangerous message that will see them have no respect for the law,

this did happen in NZ though, cops over there are a lot more lenient than their brothers over here.

if i was this boyracer, and this guy didnt get charged. We all do burnouts at some time. I rarely have done them in a carpark or street because i don't need to impress anyone my car does that for me. But i would seek revenge if some fker rammed my car even if the law did charge him. Theres no doubt they will be taking base ball bats around there and smashing up his car.

good on him, i would do the same thing if the cops never did anything about it and they kept my family up constantly, and threatened the lives of my family.

but sounds like the local sport area in pennant hills(sydney). Its down the back end, of penno,(drive down past blockbuster off pennant hills road) pretty much in the bush of the suburb - no housing any where in sight and big wide dirt carparks (next to the tennis courts haha) i used to go down there once in a blue moon to let off some steam, do a loop or 2(no i dont sit there for 25mins wasting fuel.) and come back up. theres no smoke as its dirt.. No one around and no noise pollution because i dont need to redline my car to do it, just about 2500rpm and it feels great. I dont do it with other people in the car, or when there is anyone using any of the facilities. I'm not that stupid. i havent done it for about 9-10 months now, and im sure its probably used for that purpose every week, maybe every day by the area's youths after school or whatever after about 5:30-6pm when its not being used for anything. better then them trying it on the local roads, even the oil slicked main road(pennant hills rd is horrible when its been raining)

i'm not sure where im going this. Maybe its

I went to Uni back in adelaide with a guy who did that! Forgot the keys to his steering lock, but had vice grips and allen keys in the car - off came the wheel so he could drive home... funny thing is, he was a kiwi too!

The 4wd owner probably tried numerous times to call the police without them doing anything, so I can understand why he did it. although he could have gone about it a better way. just facing up to the little kids would have scared them off.

the problem may very well be that things are different now. 20 years ago, there was around 100-1000 less housing estate than there is now. we had somewhere to be silly because there was open areas without kids, pets, many cars etc. while the lack of area is no excuse for the current hoons to terrorise communities - just like open areas was not an excuse for us to endanger even our own lifes, they probably do not act any different than us. it is all in our faces now days, be it the media or outside our homes, so it is noticed more. although i sympathise with the 4wd drive owner, there is no excuse for running into someone deliberately. we have already seen on this forum the tragic results that can arise when that happens

Least it was on a tennis court and not on a road. We all know that the road is the safest place for Children to be playing....

I guess when you have had enough of somthing you take action - but i reckon hes lucky he didn't get punched or worse - because i would be angry if a cranky man rammed my car - regardless of what i was doing

What the 4wd owner did was wrong but I can understand where he is coming from. In my area we get these 4 pot screamers lapping around at all hours of the night waking up my 5 month old son. My temper is building up I tell you.

i do understand what you are saying, but if the incident went tragically wrong, then the 4wd driver had better not pick up the soap for a while. if he spent some time as a guest to the state, would he still have been happy with his decision. i suppose i am just suggesting to think very seriously before doing anything that may be regretted at a later time

maybe he could have staked the area, took some photos of the rego numbers and with proof - at the very least the car would probably be impounded

don't get me wrong if they were the same hoons doing it all the time, then i do not feel sorry for them. if it was their first time doing something we all do, then they may feel abit unlucky. however, if it stops them from being idiots and therefore killing or injuring someone else, some good has come about. unfortunately we do not have a crystal ball

we all have different ideas to what is acceptable and sometimes we forget what we got up to before we became matue. no one is innocent - some are just more guilty than others

These days yes they are a bit girly and drive Lancers and Hyundais. When I got my P's we drove VS Commodores and EA Falcons, when I first went to highschool the older kids drove VK Commodores and XF Falcons, when my uncle went to higschool they had Datsuns, Geminis and Mazdas when my dad went to highschool they had Toranas and XA Falcons with a "hot" 2V straight six. With my Grandfather they had British junk and Holdens with gearboxes with no syncomesh.

If someone says it was different in their day they are lying it;s always been the same. If anything it is better now because a FWD pussbox is hardly going to do much damage as to opposed say a Valiant which will put a hole clear through a house and come out without a scratch.

Would have liked to see 4WD vs Valiant hoon....................

Hard to know the exact circumstances that led up to the event, but it sounds like the hoons where very regular visitors to his area. If he had tried calling the cops before and got no help, then I can understand why he did what he did. The young hoons sound like they deserved what they got. I don't think young people today are the same as when we were young, sure we all did stupid things, but kids these days don't seem to have the respect for public/other peoples property that we did. A lot of them don't even seem to give a thought to others, but everyone says "it's ok, they don't know any better". At least old mate was trying to teach them better. But I also understand the other side of the coin that says it could have gone very wrong.

Dave.

You would seek revenge even though you were acting like a tool and endangering people time and time again?

Your last sentence sums up the scum boyracer's we get around here. They disobey the law, the police can't even enforce it on them, and when a citizen stands up to one or more of them, they get gang bashed or weapons pulled on them (either on the spot, or they come get 'revenge' later when the person is alone and there's 20 of them).

Pathetic pieces of these type are.

For this case, whilst I think the 4WD went too far, I can understand where he's coming from, and instead of crying about it like girls, hopefully the 'boyracers' learn a lesson.
