I pulled the stock head unit out of my AU series II today (what a mission!) and have a kenwood KDC U546BT to go in its place. The aftermarket unit says it has steering wheel control... and there is a wire for it, I just can't figure out what to attach it to/if I still need something like the CAT10???
Help muchly appreciated!

Yep you will need the Kenwood adaptor which is sold seperately.

For ronwest.
I saw the photos in you post of 21-12-10, and in particular the double din for an LTD. I believe that it was uminecos double din surround.
Do you have any other details such as the head unit used, can I obtain the surround etc.

What's the general consensus here about Cadence brand speakers?

They come in the 5x7 size and will be looking to put 4 new speakers in mine as well as 2 new in the girlfriend's Laser (all same size).

Clarion SRC and Alpine Type R/S are the other choices.

Thanks for that.

$80 for the Cadence 150 watt, about $140 for Clarion 200watt and about $190 for Alpine 250watt. All 5x7 size.

I quite like the look of the Cadence ones and most of the music I/we listen to is 70s-00s, dance/pop/rock/house etc. So looking for something in the mid range.

Will be running from an old Clarion head unit in my car 50x4 (the AU3) and a new Kenwood head unit in the g/f's car. No amps or subs.

Go the Cadence.....since you're not running any amplifiers, you'd be wasting the money getting the Clarion's or the Alpine's....you'll find the Clarion HU will only be running at around 4 x 18w RMS anyway - the RMS rating (which is most important) will be around 40-50w for the Cadence....they'll be more than fine.

Will do. Thanks mate for the info and advice. They should be similar (if not better) than the Pioneer and JL Audio ones I had in the old BA.

Hey Guys,

I recently bought a Sony Xplod CDXGT180 headunit to replace the factory headunit in my AU1 Futura.

I have bought the FP9140 facia as suggested earlier in this thread but when I go to place the unit and the facia together, the unit seems to be too big for it.

I am sure that I am doing something wrong as I am a complete novice when it comes to this stuff so any advice you could give would be great.

Cheers.

^^ Take some pics of whats goin on there so we can advise you better..

Iv added most of the premium sound stuff to my car now, just need to get some A Pillar premmy sound moulds and grilles an hook the tweeters up.. Adding even the factory sub and amp really makes a big diffrence and seriously helps the stock speakers along big time.. Before I had the sub going, I was convinced Id have to replace the speakers much sooner than I originally planned.. Now, I can hold off to do some other things that are a bit more important.
Does anyone know whether the parcel shelf lower carpets that fit under the parcel shelf on premmy sound B series and F series cars will suit and fit the AU undershelf as the boot undercarpets do??
Im after the moulded bit of carpet that covers under the speakers..

OK, so here is my new headunit (minus the mounting cage and faceplate)

and the facia

and the two together

As you can (maybe) see, the headunit cannot fit through the hole in the facia.

I have tried to spread it apart but it doesnt seem to be that flexible.

Thanks.

My pioneer one did the same thing. Just attach it from behind, and when the stereo's face goes on it will poke through the hole.

That fits exactly the same as mine. You butt the front housing of the headunit up against the frame of the pocket as you have pictured, bolt it all together to the side brackets that bolt to the pocket and fit it all in the hole in the dash..
You dont need to fit the outer headunit cover peice that fits around the face of the headunit..

In my BF2 GT-P when you looked up at the parcel shelf from inside the boot, there was a moulded peice of carpet that covers over the rear speakers and sub.. Im pretty sure my BA XR with premmy sound had this aswell..

This is what Im on about.. Not the best pics, but you get the idea..

So has anybody managed to remove a factory Prestige Audio Double DIN deck with jammed clips in one side? One side pops out, but the other side won't. I am using the correct removal tools.

I want to keep the stock unit intact.

Anybody had experience with wired remote control inputs? The Sony XAV-W1 I want to install has wired remote input on the back, looks like a 3.5mm audio jack.

Where can I get looms to connect it to the steering wheel controls?

Give these guys a try

I bought the bits I needed for my stereo from them and they were very good.

How did you go with the AU series II - kenwood KDC U546BT adapter for the steering wheel control? I'm chasing the same part.

Aerpro now make patch leads that will enable the steering wheel controls to work with aftermarket headunits. We have installed a couple now.

Hey guys,
I installed an aftermarket headunit into my Series 1 Classic and it was quite a simple task.

Now my headunit didn't allow for steering wheel controls, so I could get away with using the basic adapter.
This is the adapter that I am currently using:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/FORD-AU-F...item27c486ce81

I am looking at upgrading to a newer headunit which does have the Steering Wheel Compatibility and will purchase the required adapters [Aerpro] when the time comes.

This is the new headunit that I'm looking at:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/110890115...84.m1423.l2649

Sadly, using these types of headunits doesn't allow me to have it flush with the pocket, so I am just curious to know if there are any bracket for the AU, to be able to install a Double Din headunit??

If So, then I may consider using something like this one instead:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/D2208Z-Eo...item53eed66367

Any advice would be greatly appreciated and I hope that the info that I have posted up is of use to someone

Cheers,

Dave

I bought a CAT10 off ebay for 50 bucks, the seller said in wouldn't work so I got a sparky mate to check it out and there was a broken wire, he replaced it and it has been working great for over 12 months now. I can even scroll through songs using my bluetooth off my phone.

Try REPCO. They have racks of AU radio harness adapters. Give them a call for your Kenwood. Not sure if this is what you meant though.
