Anyone up with old muscle car prices? They must be suffering as well.
Old jags have taken a hit, cars that were up around 100K are advertised for 60K now and not moving.

Yeah I know. No reserve either. Next year should prove more interesting though, especially with FG prices.

Poor resale and/or trade-in values aren't just a Ford thing. Imagine being a Holden/HSV customer watching some of the deals being rolled out. $29k drive away for a VE with leather is a bargain. They're offering something like $7-8K of extra's, and dropping the price of the base car at the same time. Likewise, HSV are butchering resale values of the LS3 Clubsport and GTS's to the tune of $17-18K by offering these vehicles on sale new for around $58K.

It's a buyer's market at the moment. I just picked up my new XR5T Focus for around $9k below RRP, and I'll pocket the 3 odd grand in GST this quarter as a Xmas bonus

I don't see how that could happen. The BA was car of the year. It sold well. I would think that like the current financial climate, used cars are hard to sell. So it doesn't matter how good or bad they are, they are harder to shift. Espcially as a mass produce car, theres so many out there, that you gotta compete with a ton of other BA's on the road. I don't think you can credit the AU with bad resale prices on the BA.

AU killed peoples perception of the Falcon, it was an ugly car and rated very poorly in comparison to the VT / VX era... which in line hurt BA resale as it set the trend.

i've only been watching the bottom end of that market (under 10K) and it looks as bad. cars that were selling like crazy at this time last year are not reaching reserve and getting really low bids.

average looking ZG's and ZH's would easily reach 5K last year. now they only get up to 2-3K if lucky

it's happening all over the place. as has been mentioned, it's not just affecting Falcons, it's everything.

Aggreed, I wonder If he would swap it for a Territory? I would love to have TWO GT's parked in the Shed. Wify probably wouldn't be as happy though. :

Great time to buy, bad time to sell. Affecting basically everything ATM.

Good time to enjoy the great car you purchased for what it is. Everyone bought a car they really wanted to be in right?

Good buy. Love Blood Orange which my last XR8 was (and had an HX 15 years ago in Blood Orange as well). Comes up a treat when it's sparkling clean.

It's all part of the financial circle of life. Your Falcon's second hand value has dramatically decreased whereas your house's value has probably tripled over the last ten years. All you can do is, if you are in the market for a new car, then by all means go out and get yourself a bargain. However, if you are traumatized by the trade in value of your car, then hold onto it and enjoy it a few years more.

I have been toying with the idea of buying a 2nd hand luxury / sports car next yr for my 30th....

3-4 months ago a 99-01 Porsche Boxter was cheap at 55 grand, now there are a bunch for sale at the 30-35 grand bracket.

Same with the 2nd Jaguar XK8, late 90's model's can be had for around 50 grand! Now that was a 200 grand+ car when new....

Heaps of 99-02 Audi TT's for under 30 grand... 2000-2002 Lexus SC430's for 50 grand...

Hate to be the person selling em.

An SC430, come on, it looks like one of those stupid daewoo convertibles that has won Tatts. Lexus make magnificent cars but that is the P76 of the range.

The reason cars are cheap is because no one is spending money, many people don't have any, many others who have it choose not to spend it yet.

Learn from this down turn, don't spend the good times spending your money, save it and really make it work for you when the taxi drivers tell you how bad everything is.

Oh yeah, I work on a 12/12 rule with modern cars. Turn them over each 12 months before (hopefully) the depreciation is too bad) or 12 years when they are worth nothing anyway. My EL's (1997 sedan and 1997 wagon) are due for a change the year after next.

I'm back in the market for another car. My EF is going to be a bit of a trouble maker in the next couple of years, so it is going to be garaged, and taken out on weekends.

I've seen BF XRs with the ZF for ~$18,000, but I'd rather find a BFII Ghia. It definitely is a buyers market at the moment.

Just make sure you pay extra loan repayments equivalent to a personal loan or you'll end up paying the car out of 30 years, which means 30 years of interest! The interest would cost you more than triple the car.

Yeah , Muscle Cars gone to the pack. I remember reading once that the most depreciating car on the Australian market is the HSV range of vehicles.........and if thats true I'm sure the FPV range would not be to far behind..... But you don't normally buy a HSV or FPV vehicle worrying about depreciation...

Burning money - try this for size -

My Gt for mid - high 30's - April first rego'd, 17k. That's the trade in value. No BS. This car had a RR of mid 60's less than 6 months ago.

Just think about that for a moment - it's depreciated at the rate of 5000 per month, or $1.75 per kilometer. At that rate, I'll just drive it to the tip mid next year and watch the piece of #$&^ get crushed.

Private sale - very low 40's.

Hahaha, the scud is a keeper!

Your mate got ripped off.

leave it another couple of weeks and the seller will need to throw in a spare Falcon XT just to sweeten the deal.........
