Pre-product means in this term a car that is produced before it's actual release date. I was told by my dealer (who ordered the first two ST's in Aust) that these were showroom display cars and that you had to order them in. I was lucky to buy mine and if you go online to Google, there are only photos of my black st chrome lights. That's how crazy it is.

That's actually incorrect, the ST has been on sale in Europe since June, all of our vehicles have been built well and truly after that. I remember reading on a European forum that there was a batch of defective black headlights, the new batch have a small hood over the top of the projector beam - these are the lights we are seeing now.

It's disappointing that the Ford website showed black headlights from day dot even though the early cars delivered have come with the hideous chrome lights. I even checked the build spec on my car and it says "headlamps - with black bezel" which infuriates me even more.

That's my opinion having one with chrome lights, but honestly if both were parked side by side I think most would agree.

Yeah the dealers can talk it up a bit. I just watched the Sweeney. OH EM GEE! I was just blown away at the fact that they used the ST in the movie. If anyone with an ST here is planning to see the movie, you won't be disappointed. However, you should already know your baby's full potential.

They actually used a 1.6 EB Focus with a ST kit on it in that movie The ST wasn't finished yet.

Still does the car justice though!

Hahaha. ConradP I know that but it was ******* awesome though. Ford UK probably paid a bit to market a few of their ford models, only guessing.

More about your new Ford Focus ST.
To offer value and give rewarding benefits to Australian consumers, you are driving a Focus 3 (ST3) without full leather heated seats. You can check the VIN sticker inside drivers door. For Australian ST's, headlights were Chrome (first few ship deliveries). If you order an ST now, you will most likely receive an ST with Black headlights. Other than that, enjoy the benefits of great fuel economy and performance.

Current ST owners, wondering if you can help me out? Heres a pic of an ST headlight:

I'm trying to understand what each globe does in the headlight and what type they are. Can anyone help me out to identify what does what?

Also would be good to know what type globes the indicators front and rear I.e. are fronts Bau15s and rears 3457?

Thanks

No idea on types, but from my observations:

High = "steering" light, lights around corners as your steer
?? = High
HID = HID
Indicator = Indicator

Thanks chrisorm.

So the high beam located in the centre must be HID also? I assume this is what Bi Xenon means, that there are two separate HID's in each headlight

I think that's the turning light, if you're going slow in reverse and drive it lights up that side only, happens on my sisters titanium.

No.. only the projector is HID... the high beam is just plain old Halogen. Bi Xenon means the projector lifts and dips itself as well when you put the high beam on as well as the halogen bulb.

Thanks for confirming.

In that case, I'm still confused as to what the centre lamp is/does.

Does anyone have an extract from the owners manual they could send me which also shows the type of globes these headlights take?

The inner light is a turning light... When you turn the steering wheel it lights up, same as MB Mondeo XR5.

So you have the inner light (turning lamp) - middle light light (standard halogen high beam) outer light (Round HID with Bi-Xenon (will adjust higher when high beam is on).

Hope this makes sense.

DASH GT spot on. If left on auto head lights ( far right setting) the LED lights are on all the time.

The LEDs are on all the time irrespective of the switch, they just dim when you switch it to parkers and headlights.

This is correct. The LEDs are European requirement - all new cars are required to have these 'running lights' as they call them.
