I think that Ford changed away from teh E series because the AU's were so different, and again onto the B's because (At the time) Ford wanted to distance themselves as far away as possible from the AU's.

I have a friend of mine who spent 35 years at Ford Brisbane and have it on good authority they nearly used EC after the EB falcon apparantly it is only us Queenslanders that used the abreviation EC for Earth Closet (outside Dunny).

When Ford Melbourne were notified there was a return mail to verify that the abv was actually for real,

This was only about 3 months before the release of the ED falcon

It amy have already been stated but i couldn't be bothered reading. A somewhat useless comment that is! And when Holden designated the commo's with the big V,Valiant was on to the C's. Love the way people are accusing manufacturers of stealing model id's. Who gives a rats ИИИИ.

The code AU was based around the standard Ford coding at the time of Australia and rear wheel drive platforms.

I do understand that this is FORD FORUMS, and that we do have just a few die hard Ford fans here, but this section is for general automotive chat. If you wanna flame someone about their stock 6 Holden beating V8's (as much as I would also like to), please start another thread or do it via PM.

If this thread just gets worse in bagging out Holdens, someone please lock it because it was not intended to do so in anyway. Just a general conversation about "Whats in a name".

people should pay atention to what their buying, for instance if theyre looking at buying a falcon, then look a bit at the history or something... i dont know how people can just go out and say i want to buy a "car'...
and on the argument of taking other mnufacturers codes, what about gti? or gt? or gts? or lx, sx and the like... who gives a s**t really... its naming the model of the car, and the grade of it... so people know what it is...

Well, I just bought a "car" and have no idea about what code it is, what position in the range it is or anything about it really.
I looked up some history on issues, made sure it didnt have those issues and we bought it. Does that make me stupid? Or is realy jsut a case of some people look at cars as a comfortable and effective form of transport and really dont care if it has a VX, BF or WXYZ model code.

For the record, I sold the EF, not the AU. We replaced the EF with a Kia Carnival.. hardly something that is anything more than effective comfortable transport.

The one thing I like about the Commodore series names is they are in chronological order (Well not now with the VE) whereas the Falcons confuse the crap out of me. lol

Problem with comparing the Falcon with the Commodore is that the Falcon has been around alot longer.

Try the pre-Commodore Holdens then, at least Ford are pretty easy to follow provide you know that they start with XL and XA comes after XY.
