could bee a good marketing assist.

"Falcon, Australias own for 50 years, overtime has gathered wisdom to become australias greatest, with world class handling and safey, with 5 stars, an true blue first. the competitors are younger, but only one has been in a family for half a centry. I don't think that would fly. Australians know the Holden is older than the Falcon, regardless of the branding.... Commodore, Kingswood, Torana, FJ whatever. I think they should/will just focus on the Falcon pedigree, without bringing the competition into the equation. Flag waiving is always going to be difficult when the Ford name is so strongly associated with the US and it's namesake while Holden established it's claim way back when Chifley gave it the nod with federal funds in ~1945.

Maybe a special blinged up, GT rebadged the "Raptor"..... "Untethered, menacing and celebrating fifty years"

[QUOTE=bathurst77]In September 1960, Ford Australia released the XK falcon, a locally produced version of Ford USA's new compact family car.
XK
length 4602mm
width 1778
height 1384
Wheelbase 2781mm
track f/r 1397/1384mm
turning circle 11.6 metres
weight 1105 kg
Had a 144ci (2.36 litre) 67Kw/187Nm inline six, with optional 170ci(2.8litre) 75Kw/212Kw i6
3 speed manual or optional 2 speed auto.
The 144 manual did 0-60Mph in 16.8 and quarter mile in 20.8. Top speed about 135 Kmh.
Prices ranged from 1137 to 1318 aussie pounds ($2274- $2512)
Features include no radio, bench seat and no indicators, manual recirculating ball steering, drum brakes, leaf spring rear suspension on live axle, the airbag sat beside the driver............

I think you will find they all had indicators. One even novel ( Not) feature was the variable speed windscreen wipers . Vaucumm powered, they stopped when you put the pedal to the metal and went like crazy when you took your foot off .. awesome ahead of its time lol

Its the 5th anniversary of FPV not the GT. The first GT was released in 1967 as every Ford fan would know!

when i was a kid we had a XK station wagon version of the sedan in the picture. same colour and all. great old car, took us all around nsw on camping trips , through some big floods etc. never let us down. we had about 20 km of rough dirt road to get to town but never had any problems with the front end. if it didn`t deliver better then 30 mpg dad would be most dissapointed.

it was stored on my uncles property for possible future restoration but sadly got destroyed in a bush fire a few years ago.

Default Falcon 50th anniversary 1960-2010

So September 14th 2010 marks the 50th Anniversary of the Falcon.
The Ford Discovery Centre is apparently working with Ford to organise
some type of celebration but at this stage there are no more details.
I hope they do something like the Ford Australia 75th anniversary and
let us know soon so those of us outside of Victoria can make plans to
be there!

Maybe they can do something early in the year between Geelong AFD &
FPV Open Day? Or Easter?

Does anyone from Ford or FDC use these forums & can tell us whats happening?

Also the day after my 19th birthday! I hope Ford does go out of their way to do something big and let the media know, so instead of harping on about the Holden Commodore being 30 years old, they mention the Falcon's 50th

Do you mean its to early because its Ford & they cannot get their sh..
together? They need to let people know sooner rather than later so they
can plan & save$$$ to go.

Ford NEED to whore the fact Falcon has been in production for 50 years, australias longest running nameplate, with a nice stylish campaign highlighting the all good points throughout the years - just so long as they don't get that same place that did that dodgy finger ads

This is a very big deal Holden would scream from the rooftops and make a media circus only bettered by themselves when they hit 75, they always seem to go waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay over the top with their promotional guff. Falcon killed the kingswood and the torana. Heres an idea a highly limited production run of two door Falcons!

Agree, but i hope the design team do a better job of defining it from the sedan than Holdens last effort with the Monaro.

I always have trouble telling the difference between the late model Monaros and the Commodores unless its from the side...... :

Ford will be as lame as always and put a different set of alloys and badges on it and ask additional $10k.

Theory is there enough falcons to cover 3.2 kms of bathurst racetrack think of the helicopter shots of all that metal rolling around and around bathurst :sm_drool:

I'd love to see Ford Aus do an ad with the passion that Shell/Ferrari did with their ad recently. It only cost $2 million to produce apparently. :P

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RS-oZwYAG6Q

No reason why they couldn't do something as evokative filming on the great ocean road or great alpine road, with the most famous Falcon touring cars or the past... Then ending it with a G6ET or FPV of some description.

But alas, a small plastic "50th" badge on the front quarter panel and a new alloy wheel design if we are lucky is the most we can look forward to. :(

Prove me wrong Ford!!

when i saw the commercial for the 30th anerversary of the commodore and the fuss holden made about it, it dissapointed me because the falcon is so much older but people my age are unaware of this. they still believe that holden and the commodore are more aussie than ford and the falcon. but in reality the falcon should be australia's iconic car.

holdens marketing is always over the top and fords lack of marketing is hindering its name. Do you think people not into any particular brand of car would even know about the 40th edition gt? No, its just another black and gold falcon to them...ask anyone who's not a true ford or holden fan, what do they like better and they will 90% of the time say holden because the marketing is drummed into their heads.

wake up ford australia and stamp your place into the minds of the australian public!

we can't expect them to let us know when and what is happening if they don't know themselves...

the best out of staters can do.. is save the coin.. and when the announcement is made.. make the arrangements to attend..
