NM/NP (2000-2005) Pajero on petrol. Diesel will probably be over budget. The NP models had traction and stability control etc..

eg. http://www2.pajeroclub.com.au/forum/...ad.php?t=24372

or

http://www.carsales.com.au/car/brand...5&sort=default

I bought mine after looking long and hard at Territories. The Pajero is about the best handling 4WD in that age/price.

Have a look out the front of any school at drop off time and you'll see Pajeros everywhere.

I can't see why you would look at anything other than a 7-seat Territory. The back two seats aren't great but as long as the kids remain under 15 for a few years then that should be no issue. They drive like a car and are reliable, in fact in a lot of instances they drive better than a Falcon.

Fuel costs for a family the size of Jason's? Petrol Pajeros are thirsty. Hell, the diesel one I have is bloody thirsty.

I would look at the Kia Carnivals (06 on) and Honda Odysseys (only with full service history)

You put 7 people in an Odyssey/Carnival/Pajero, I don't think the fuel costs would be all that different. A friend of mine has 6 kids and loves his Grand Carnival V6, as it swallows all their crap. He admits it drinks fuel like a fish though. A Territory wouldn't be much better or worse either. Probably all around the 15l/100km loaded up and town driving. Anyone, it's just a suggestion.

Depends if you want to be driving a commerical truck or something that actually drives nice.

Think of all the stares you'll get.....
Even though these cars are terribly ugly - I would buy one of these.

They're cheap, they run Mercedes driveline, ain't nobody gonna try steal it, and its gonna be cheap to run and insure.

Once my 4 kids outgrow our Territory (and they will) - this may be something i'd consider?

Why do you want to go through a Ford dealer? You definitely will not get the best price on a used Territory for example through a Ford dealer.

I can add to the KIA drama sister had an 05 motor gone at 90 thou , so got it changed out , went again by 100 , steered dam right weird , clutch always slipping , brakes not the greatest and generally rattled ..

Have you looked at anything like a pathfinder , prado etc 10 year old tarago may cost more to buy but will cost you nothing to own , my opinion look way past that KIA .

Of all the posts here ... no one has mentioned the Toyota Tarago?

http://www.carsales.com.au/private/d...cr=13&__N=1246 1247 1252 1282 4294962861 4294962860 903 1216&silo=Stock&Range=Price:7500,15000~0.5

Only 100,000kms on this 2004 model. Better looking than a Kia Carnival.

Must be something wrong with your diesel one. We have had 5 of them in diesel and none of them were thirsty. You could pick up a 2001-2 3.2lt diesel pajero at the auctions for 15 -17k..............

I hired a Tarago in Townsville to cart, my partner and I, my two parents and my then 18 month old daughter. It was a great unit. Comfortable and chewed up the kilometres. Not much room with all the seats up, but you can spit them hire row to store luggage which we did, and you could also pile stuff up on the second row floor if you had to. But a roof pod would make it a very practical car.

No diesel ruled it out for me, and if I had one more kid to make four, it would be something I'd be looking at. With twin boys the seven seat territory will do me for a few more years. roof pod will be purchased I'd say.

There is a nice Mercury Cougar Wagon on car sales, you would need to add 3rd row of seats but there is space.

A more suitable car would be Chev (Holden) suburban, Yes I know its not a ford, but the Ford equivalent is rare.

Re Tarago's, how old are your kids Jason, the third row in the later model's don't have anchor points for baby seats.

I guess you've never had to carry 4 kids all day every day with a Terri, have you?
They are nothing more than an occasional use 7 seater.
You really need a split 3rd row. Someone mentioned an XC90. Best 7 seater out the IMO.
I'm selling mine (see below)but may be a few K more than what you want to spend.
(Has a great V8 note though......hehe)
