By my own admission I should have been done at least once (doing 120+ on the highway overtaking, unmarked XR coming the other way) but wasnt. Seen a hell of a lot of police about though, good to see.

since the long weekend, i've only seen 1 cop car, which was 20 minutes ago... and people speeding lol... even when going through time distance cams on ringroad.. bad luck to them.

tips that you probably already know, but for the ones that don't:

look as far as the 'eye can see', look left, look right, look behind mirrors and/or headcheck, no cops... then do as you please, lol.......but then you have them on the on-ramps parked and ready to ping people already on the freeway. seen coppa with the gun on ringroad a few weeks ago, on the on ramp just before entering the freeway, parked on right hand side of road (or just on the grass on the right hand side)

No fines here, spent most of the weekend in my new Super Pursuit and kept to the limit, there were heaps of police around on Saturday nite in brisbane, i think i counted like 4! all doing radar work.

Its funny the amount of ********* that have given me a hard time in the pursuit already trying to race / drag me, sad part is most of them have been in 4 cylinders that wouldnt even strike a chance? Whats the go with these kids???

You're assuming they all died as a result of speed. The Friday news actually attributed most of the, by then, 12 deaths to driver error. About time they got to the root cause, instead of just blaming speed every time.

Haven't even seen one police car here in Sunny Canberra.

Ho hum, yes - speed is an issue, but over 80% of crashes are below the speed limit, leaving about 42-3% as being 'speed related' both within and above the limit.

That is no to say the speed is the initiating factor in a crash.

Unsignalised intersections are particularly deadly.

Speed is not an issue, its whether you and your car have the capability and experience to drive at faster speeds.
If you want too drive at faster speeds and not get caught get the latest Bell radar detector! and yes its invisable to the police's spectre 1,2 and3 and the Stalcar Detector-detector. Its a good realible devise, cheers

Saw only 1 radar over the weekend, last night coming home on the South Gippy, just before Koo Wee Rup. Even at 10PM there was still a bit of traffic on the highway.

who is more dangerous? Someone that concetrates hard on their speedo to avoid a fine, or someone that glances now and then as part of an awareness routine, but spends much more time keeping a safe watch around them?

I think that this is where speed camera's are bad news. They reward bad driving habits and penalise a sensible approach to driving safety. JMHO.
I agree 100%

A mate lost his P's for 3 months for speeding...

This is, by FAR, the most frightening comment on this thread.

Everyone died because they were speeding and speed cameras would have saved their lives.

What? You are so naive and gullible that you believe the rubbish sprouted by the carpetbaggers.

Are you THAT stupid? Really?

For the sake of the safety of the children of Australia I hope you don't vote.....

If you are genuine about driving as safely as you can, then you owe it to yourself to take precautions. If you are a maniac with no regard for road safety then you should not read either of these sites.

http://www.dontgetcaught.com.au/

http://www.australianradar.com.au/

The gear can seem expensive. But the way things are going, they may well pay for themselves in a short period of time, especially thos that drive for a livving.
Concentrate on the road, not your freakin speedo. :

Cheers all. :

At the end of the day, radars only work well if you can react fast enough and slow down before the cop has locked your speed. That is assuming that the cop has seen you.

And radar speed detectors only beep/squark/whatever when they have picked up the beem fron the cop and usually the cop has your speed.

I think radars are all a waste of money, imo.

I know what you mean. When they get to a overtaking lane they put the foot down & do the speed limit or more so you carn't get around them with out speeding. Then wonder why people do dumd thing to get around them.

I've work every day this weekend & travel 96km each way to & from work, i have not seen one Hwy Patrol in my travels.

I went down to Phillip Island on Good Friday:
- 2 Coppers on Greensborough bypass
- 1 Copper on South Eastern Freeway
- 1 Copper on the South Gippsland Highway
- 1 Copper at an accident
- 1 Copper cruising around at Phillip Island

And on the way home on Saturday:
- 1 Copper on the South Gippsland Highway
- 1 Copper at an accident on the Monash
- 1 Radar in Heidelberg

And I also remember seeing another person being pulled over, on one of those days.

Believe it or not, they were out. Still saw a fair share of people in a hurry. Although most people stuck to the speed limit, because of traffic, yet the congestion did not help, with cars so close together.

Those radar/laser guns the cops point at you from head on. Do they take photos or do they have to pull you over to issue you the infringement ?

I had a copper pointing one at me tonight. I was going afew kays over but wasnt pulled over. I gather I am OK since I wasn't pulled over ?

All the handheld radar/laser thingy does is measure your speed. They'll then need to pull you over.

This is what all you poor sods living on the east coast (vic included) should do. It is only a matter of time before the rot sets in up here, but at least we can do 130-140 without getting our wallet raped.

No way, they are well worth it! and ive only had mine for 2 months , its got me out of 2 situations with heaps of time to slow down, but mainly use it on the highways, very good for cameras too. Also has sensitivity controls so in town swtich it over too 'city' and most eliminates false alarms.
