interesting to note that 1300 sales only just scrapes you into the top 20 now whereas 10 years ago it was top 10 figures.

also, corolla hasn't really changed all that much.
Spot on, it takes nearly the top 4 today to match the numbers of the top 2 back in '02, and if you moved to the hey days of the BA vs VT/VY it would be top 5 today = top 2 in 2003/4.

Too much? Both Falcon & Territory are down on last year for the month of August! How anyone could be claiming this as a good month for either Falcon or territory is beyond me.

Good to see a great jump for Falcon. I really hope next month is another increase of a few hundred (wishful??) then the press might have a positive spin on Fords Future !!

No, it hasn't. It's still got the same motor and gearbox, and if you squint a little, the same basic design.

answer me this. why do people keep assuming that cars should keep selling in similar numbers regardless of market forces??

i always get the feeling there are those that will never be happy unless falcon somehow gets back to selling nearly 3000month. that will never happen, and its no fault of the falcon.

An 18% combined drop off in Sales in 12 months.

From a home grown POV I don't see the good news either. But as a whole with Ranger doing well things might be alright overall for Ford.

When looking at Holden numbers too my concern is the overall drop off in local product buying. Not just a Ford thing.

Year on year there may be a decrease, but if you look at the Falcon's numbers for this calendar year, I think you'll find that it's August 2012 numbers are the second highest for this year (behind 1400 units for June)

Maybe the praise from Wheels for the EcoBoost Falcon has been the catalyst for a bump in fleet sales too.

Im now seeing ads for Opel on TV, this highlights the massive competition were seeing in the AU auto market. And I think Europeans seeing how good our economy is are targeting our market too.

This is an interesting set of numbers, however you do not see the media with the doom and gloom against the commodore. This just goes to highlight the fact that the large cars are getting hurt in this market. People are happy to buy SUV's that consume more juice though. I have a cousin with a Mitsubishi Outlander V6 and that consumes 18-20 around town, that is Sydney traffic.

I am not sure with the Cruze as I have only ever sat in one, however I was not impressed with it compared to other small cars that I have been in. There were rough edges on the door handles, which is not good enough. I did manage to drive the current model golf TSI on the weekend and it is a well put together car.

They also sold 731 Caprices in the US that month as well.

Market forces from this year to last year have not changes much!!! I actually think it was a pretty good month for Falcon (sort of) when compared to prior months of this year. I just didn't ready like the comment that made me make my reply.

Back on topic.. 731 carprcies in the US is a really good number. And I see no reason why Falcon can't get back to 2000+ per month.. Carmry is mid 2's evey month & Falcon should be able to match IMO.

FPV released the R-Spec GT and there was 350 of them. All apparently spoken for. So, even if just a portion were sold / registered in the month then that is some of the jump!

Perhaps 15% of Falcons for the month might've been FPV's

So many back orders in the system that are finally being delivered I'd say.

We still do not have even close to a healthy supply of Hilux.

Interesting to see what happens when you add ute numbers to the local cars.

If you add 778 Holden Utes to the Commodore figure, it goes to number 2 seller at 3213.

Im not sure of Falcon ute sales in August, but Im sure it would of cracked the 2000 mark once added to Falcon sedan.

I suppose the utes are another reason to stay RWD.

It's not quite the same motor - whilst being very similar, the 1ZZ-FE only had VCT on the exhaust cam but the 2ZR-FE has VCT on both cams.
