The problem is that you can't copywrite a "style"...you can only copy write design.

Harley Davidson discovered this when they tried to sue Kawasaki when the first Kawasaki Vulcan cruisers came out some years back...from ten feet away they sure looked like a Harley...except of course the Vulcan went harder and could stop and handle...

The judgement came down on Kawasakis side, the judge saying that "You cannot copy write a style of bike". Just because the Kawasaki happened to be a V-twin cruiser-style motorbike doesn't make it a rip off of a Harley...it just happens to follow the style...and Harley can't copywrite the cruiser style of motorcycle as it's own alone.
Now, if Kawasaki had copied some of the design points of a Harley...ripped off the design of some engine part or brakes or whatever...then they would have a case to answer.

Interestingly, Harley has in fact copywrited the sound of a Harley..."the sound of an air cooled common crank pin 60 degree angle V twin engine"...
