Around the time leaded fuel was being phased out, lead based paint, and leaded pipe fittings were also removed from use. Obviously these things still exist, but to much lesser quantities. It accounts for some of the drop in ingested lead levels.

Yes; as argued "lead poisoning could really be a cause of violent crime" but as a cause I think it has been eclipsed by Crystal Meths.

With Crystal Meth there appears little argument against it being the scourge of society that it is. I'm guessing here are no large corporations with vested interests in its production like with lead.
I found the correlation with a reduction in 'lead fuelled' crime lagging behind the cessation of use being fairly universal no matter where tested and analysed.
