Well, there was nothing Australian about the design of the first Commodores. The earliest Commodores were heavily based on the Opel Rekord E/Commodore C

Everytime I see someone post up the comparison pics of the Opels vs Holdens, I cringe as i think of all those bogans who truely believe that the Commodore is a fully Australian designed car.

Im pointing out its not really a concept car, its an existing vehicle albeit in Europe, brought here and modified to run say an L34 308.

Holden never hid that fact, it was heavily advertised as German engineered when released.

It might have been German designed, I cant recall which, but they didnt hide it anyway.

How the bogans who drive them dont know it is beyond me.

Back on topic I believe the car was a BF GT/GTP (I heard rumours that it was a BA mkII from people at the Ford stand, hence why some body panels looked newer than others) that was retrofitted with the Cobra spec stuff. It was obviously an old development mule as it was very scratched in some areas and had yellowed in patches suggesting it had been left out in the sun for years. From the amount of scratches I saw on it I sure as hell wouldnt want it. Interesting to note though that the kms suggested otherwise (had something like 17-30kms).

The F6X and F6R's white paintwork in comparison looked brand new.

I didn't get to AIMS but I did have a reasonably close look at the Cobra sedan and ute at Bathurst. No numbered id tags in either. When I asked, the FPV lady said that they were both mock-ups and not part of the 400 / 100 edition runs.

That vehicle is a "P" build not a concept or engineering mule. Those are actual compliant vehicles that are made specificly for use as journo testers and motor/trade shows. The "P" is the build number denotes this status. As these are actual compliant vehicles they are sold to the public after they have no further use to FPV.

I suspect there may be at least one "P" type vehicle for the Cobra but other than the paint/decals etc. a Cobra is a GT with R-spec and a different engine.
As the Cobra, like the GT40, is a limited build then the "P" would probably be badged GT only specifically to prevent this situation occuring.
