I looked on the official ford site and couldn't find the link to this new advertisement you guys are talking about. Sounds good though, the falcon is a very good product.

I saw it today as well. Simple and effective, just like the ads they ran for the Territory and BA a few years back.

May they drum up some real business for an awesome car that deserves to be very well sold.

As much as it pains me to say it my gut instinct is this ad will have little effect on sales......
Not because its a bad ad either, nor because the FG isnt a great car too, i just don't think TV advertising is the silver bullet some think it is....

The thing is these adds have no effect on us who are forum members and arguably to close to be objective.

To the great unwashed who actually think that Falcons and Commodore race at at Bathurst and that motoring journalists know what they are talking about, it can be enough to get a car on the 'shopping list'.

Research shows that most consumers when going to buy a car, look at a short list that they have determined from somewhere of only 3 vehicles. If your not on the list forget it. They aren't even going to your the showroom.

Toyota know this and have banged away at it for years Toyota, Oh what a feeling. Nothing specific just Toyota = Good.

Ford US has a quality level = to Toyota and a target to better them. Fords objective must be to get the Ford = Quality message across to the great unwashed. The FG is a magnificent car, that is not enough, FoMoCo must win the public consciousness with their new cars like they have with their old ones. Everybody loves old fords even GM fans.

Congrats to all involved. It must be hard to argue for the $$ in this environment.

Personally i think it will be 1 to 2 models after FG that will benefit in sales results from the quality of FG. Brand loyalty takes a long time to sway, "tribalism" takes a long time to infect....

Sad but true..

Tipping some $$$ into bragging via media however you do it or extended warranties can shorten that process, but not by a lot.

Doing nothing will extend the process and give the bean counters a chance to cut costs on the next program eg: EA AU etc...

Well I will jump on the "about time bandwagon" too lol

I seen it and its a good start now they just need something to follow or build from it so keep going on about the awards or the race wins or something and not just a one off thing

P.S. I am surprised it took so long to be a topic lol I thought this would have been here before the ad finished lol

You're right 4Vman, there will be little effect on sales .... BECAUSE IT'S TOO LATE. Ford advertising department (if there is such an entity) missed the boat.

And TV advertising is the proven most powerfull advertising medium in existance. If you want to argue against that, go talk to McDonalds who've convinced millions that an untoasted bun with a concoction of tasteless meat substance and a slice of some innocuous pickle is a genuine hamburger worth saving your hunger for. Yuk!

Contradicted yourself there just a tad!

Its never too late to advertise. They are still being sold? People are still buying? (albiet less than they were 12 months ago) Never too late .... thats not the reason that this campaign wont have a huge effect but if it picks up a few extra ..... its done its job.

They only say Falcon won the V8SC championship, they don't mention the model so technically they are right in saying it.

Wouldn't say it was a great or good ad but average, they do mention all the goodies they have one, XT and G6ET

Ford Racing are running a Comp "Rather be Dead than Red" (shirts only?)
I wonder if this will be a marketing thing in 2009 (thus the drop of sponsorship for the Red Blue Cars in V8SC)

Thanks bigev,

Great ad, not quite the emotive thing I would like to see but probably bang-on for the masses. They could have mentioned much more - like Australian content, power, fuel efficiency, Bathurst etc but maybe they'll make it into a follow up.

Great to FINALLY see Ford beat their chest a little!!

Ford have a brilliant product that they have seemed so intent on keeping a secret... nice.

Just caught it on the cricket telecast. Very good and about time Ford did a little bragging about their achievements especially in the current climate and the constraints the FG team were under.

Rather quiet thread.. Its funny how there's only 3 pages in 3 days for this topic..., had this been another "bag Ford marketing" thread we'd have been up to 30 pages by now
It seems we're great at bagging Ford, but all's quiet when they do something "good"...

Bloody good post 4Vman and I agree.

Strange how we seem to love bagging the Blue Oval yet when they do something right the baggers are no where to be seen.

No wonder the brand has issues.
