if you were converted from holden, what caused your life changing event???

It all came down to a chance meeting with an EF XR6. After having a VK then a VP I was at the local Holden dealer shopping for a new VS. After hearing what they had to say I walked across the road to the Toyota dealer to see what they had on the used car lot.

I found a 9 month old XR6 for the same price I was going to pay for the VS. The deal was done that day & a few days later I was a Ford owner.

I was never a Holden fan, but only a minor/part-time Ford person. I was raised in a predominantly Ford family (seriously, last Christmas lunch there were three E-series wagons on the street), but I started `following' them when a friend of Dad wanted to sell an EA wagon, and I decided it was time for a new car to replace the Telstar on it's way out (or so I thought, it's still going fine). I wouldn't call myself a fan boy, but the Falcons seem to suit me more than any other car, despite its faults.

I used to see anyone that drove a Commodore as a bogan, but then I realized how many bogans drive Falcons too, so I settled with an idea that Falcons have less bogans. I would buy a non-Ford car (Toy, Mitsu, Sub, Niss, etc), but I couldn't see myself in a Holden whatsoever, I guess I've been conditioned over a long period of time. It could be the fact that I own one, but do Falcons seem to have an aspect of finesse/grandeur/quality that Holdens don't? (no flamewar)

In year 8 I was the biggest ever Holden fan (due to my whole school bagging fords). I wanted a VK commodore or a VP.. I steered away from VL's and VN's since day one just coz I hated nissans and the bloody ugly looks on the first VN'S..

When the time came for me to look around for cars. I test drove about 100 Holdens, VK's some nice done up VN'S a nicely done up VH.. But I was still yet to make my mind.

When one day my mate offered me to drive his XF Fairmont. It was on its way of getting a R/W and because he had no licence he asked me to drive it down to the exhaust shop to get the extractors welded to the rest of the exhaust system..

So of course it was running on only a extractor manifold and Cat converter. Loud as, scaring the old grandmas in her little Ford Laser. I had then relised. Oh My.. what have I been missing on. His fairmont (stock engine) felt right at home to me, I loved the ride, the way I could fling it fairly hard around corners and once the exhaust was fixed how much power it had, for the old 121k/w it would kill the **** of any VK and keep up with the VN's So I hunted for a Ford and ended up with a XF Falcon 1987 for the last 3 years buy the end of VCE i was known as the trator.. Holden man becoming a Full blown Ford guy.. I learnt more about engines as time progressed and saw that Ford was well ahead in technology and in my opinion more of an aussie built car.

FORD RULE!!!!

After my father owned a string of Holdens from a Kingswood, Belmont and VC Commodore he bought an XD GL sedan and an Escort for my mother in 1984. And the rest is history.

Drove a few different newish cars over there and they all reminded me of driving an old HQ Kingswood.

The Amercan market expects a new looking car each year. Undeneath they have made very little progress.

At least in Aus the car makers are kept honest by the quality imports.

I always shake my head when I see someone in Aus that has imported a newish American car and wonder what they would say if they were honest with themselves

funny u say that before i was looking in a us mustang book to look at my motor specs (sprint being mustang cobra motor) and just looking at the 93 mustang is pathetic compaed to my ed, id even take a ED GL over it the you go back then lookin at the 87 stang looks like a xf front end with a telstar hatch rear, uuugllyyy, i agree the pre 70' muscle cars look awsome, and i believe only from say the 2000 mustang and up that there looking good again

I was a Holden man through high school until I blew the 202 in my LH when I was sixteen and my old man wouldn't let me put a 308 in it. He knew nothing about cars and told me to get a small car, so I bought a rotary.

After a few years of Jap stuff I was looking for something quickish, that could tow, handle, look ok and I could insure (under 25). The only thing that I could find was an XR8, so here I am, now with three Ford V8's......

The release of the BA coinciding with me getting my licence and having a falcon as my first car turned me blue. I got sick of commodores and their monotony and decided I just loved fords, with their better and more torquey sixes and beefier looks.

Having said that, When Mum and Dad had their VP clubbie back in the early 90's I did love the look of the EF XR's when they were released...

I'm not really a Holden or a Ford man, both companies have thier share of good and bad models...Anything other then a Japanese Import! I mean, sure they are good cars, but they are overrated, just a bit...:

Back when i was 13 and 14 i used to be like everyone else thinking holden was far superior just because they won the v8 supercars. What started my interest in ford was one day i was reading through a old motor mag where it had 0-400m times for a EA MPFI. They stated 15.5 seconds. It occured to me this was actually rather suprisingly quick and it just so happened that my dad owned a MPFI S-pack EA at the time aswell so i had a sudden interest in this car. There was just something about that ol EA that appealed to me.

Unfortunetely a new car entered the family so he sold it that year for $1200(i would have loved to be the bloke that bought it. fairly decent cond, 170,000kms, 3 months rego, MPFI 4 speed S-pack wagon in dark blue, best colour available : ). It is now replaced by my mums old TR astron 2.6ltr magna. I dont mind driving that car but my dad says it was a big mistake selling the falcon for the magna because the astron engine chews as much fuel as the big 3.9ltr did. Oh well........I'll have my own 5 speed 15.5 second EA soon :the_finge

The one thing I hate about Commodores is alot of them are owned by morons who cant look after them properly or just like to flog them thus making Commodores seem like crap to other cars.

I think Commodores would get alot more respect if they were'nt as common and if the morons stayed out of them.

BTW I have noticed a really big increase in nice Falcons here in Newcastle over the last 6 months.

I was bought up with Holdens as my whole family owned them. I will always be a Holden man but am not one eyed. I recently bought my first Ford as we get a big discount through my father-in-law and I love it. I still own my 79 Statesman but since there are 4 cars in the driveway and a baby on the way I might have to sell my Stato.
Either way, who ever makes a good car I will be interested whatever the brand.

I love old holdens. These were the cars I owned before fords. Still love them and would have an old monaro over an old GT anyday. I only converted when we bought the EA. Wasn't a fan of the VN. Too ugly.

Anyway, I'm a fence sitter. So if a good holden comes my way if I ever decide to sell the AU, then I will happily go back. But I will have to bring the Mrs kicking and screaming as she's a ford girl now.

i always like fords, but i just couldnt bare to say it at the time as it was the era of the AU falcon. everyone my age hates em, and to like fords ment serious bagging. until BAs came out, they were awsome. thats wat changed it for me.

My story,,, I tend to think that I was born with a Blue oval next to my heart. Even when I was a little fella (7yo) I would always wan't to be Dicky Johnson when I was having a bike race with my mates, And I always followed him when he was raceing. My father and my Grandfather were Holden man, But there was something about the Holden that I did not like. Ten years later I 17 and get my first car, it was a handmedown from my mother. A Datsan Sunny 1.2ltr of pure grunt, But I was lusting for a XF falcon ute. 2.5 years later I got the car I dreamed of, an 86 falcon ute white with auto, air and steer. I have always loved Ford and always will.

VN Commodore! 1 coil pack, 3 clutches, 1 gear box and rebuilt suspension through necessity all in 2 years. I might add that it was stolen twice and broken into once.

That car was the eternal money pit, I was so put off holden that I went and bought a ED GLi (still miss that car, she was great). I got 330,000km out of her and the only breakdown was an iginition coil.

After that experience, the BAXR8 was a no brainer and I still haven't looked back (although I did test drive the SS and Monaro but prefered the XR.

Well, from when I was an anklebiter until recently, all my family had owned were Holden wagons (some V8s), couple that with HRT winning just about every V8 Supercar race and series at that time, as well as the VT Commodore kicking **** in sales and everything, not to mention a couple of mates that were die-hard Holden nuts... what other choice did I have? :

However, that all changed when I was watching the Bathurst 1000 one year and they unveiled the BA Falcon Supercar, as soon as I saw it I thought to myself "Damnit, why does it have to look so good?!" From then on I have always taken a liking to the BA Falcon... it looks tough, while the Holdens seem to be becoming more 'edgy' looking.

Well I got my licence and bought myself a VR Commodore (go easy on me please), but once I'm off my P's I want to get behind the wheel of my very own XR6 Turbo

I used to be a Holden fan but I still liked Fords but prefered Holdens for some reason. might have been influence by others. A drive in a XY Gt replica a few years back up and down my street (I was only 15 or so) changed my views. That car was awesome and mind you it was only a 302W/C4 auto. Imagine a 351 manual! I love the GTHO phase 3 and its my favourite car. Actually all GTs are nice esp. the BA's. Plus I learnt that ford excelled in other areas than power and speed to Holden. Best Holdens have to be the Torana XU-1, SLR and A9X. The best Commodore would have to be the VL in Calais form with turbo. Have to admit it beats the XF on looks but things changed later on.

Its really informative to me cause im a Holden guy and I like to see what you guys think about Holdens and to my surprise there hasnt been any Holden bashing.

Its nice to see people are mature and not bash Holdens because of the badge that they wear.
