I forget what the actual differences were (maybe stuff like cast vs. forged crank and pistons), but the engines were different.
And i counter with this: (respectfully) Perhaps it was the intercooler only that was used. Lots of the same DNA there. Look at the link below regardless, its an interesting read.

The Turbo Coupe earned the honor of being the Motor Trend Car of the Year for 1987. The 2.3 L turbo-4 now included the air-to-air intercooler that was found in the Ford Mustang SVO and boosted power up to 190 horsepower for the 5-speed manual transmission. New for the Turbo Coupe was a 4-speed automatic, with which the engine was rated at 150 horsepower. The automatic had a reduced turbo boost of 9.5 psi instead of 10 to 15 psi, for “transmission durability” reasons. The Turbo Coupe also came with anti-lock 4-wheel disc brakes, Automatic Ride Control, and 16-inch 225/60VR performance tires.

I still have the original tyres/rims (Mitchellin TRX) that came with the car...luckily they have plenty of tread left.
Fairly certain they were sold in the 80's in Australia on European imports and are still available minus the white wall...I'm certain they won't be cheap to replace!
That's a nice 83, are those wheels off the turbo coupe?
There is a stunning 83 Heritage on Ebay at the moment, the cleanest I have ever seen.It has the fake wire wheel hubcaps. Were these standard?
Your instrument cluster/dash looks similar in ways to my 80.

The 15.4 (390mm) Metric tyre size was a short run and attempt to market a european performance tyre in the USA. A few makes and models had them, not only from Ford. They were a flop, and expensive to buy. You can source them new from Coker tire in the US for almost $500 per tire. The wheels on the 83 were optional on all Birds and Cougars in 83/84 and ran the TRX metric tires. You hardly see them ever anymore because of the tire cost. The 83 Heritage usually came with wire wheels, polycast, or TRX wheels depending on the option list. As for interior, they carried a lot over from the 80-82 Birds, and although the body design was radical, a lot of the tech was the same. 85-85 carried many more changes from 83-84.

If your tyre's are indeed original to the car, check your sidewalls very carefully. These are known to dry rot and crack. Not sure if you just are storing them or if you are running them actively.....

How scarce are Cougars of that model in the US?
I think I have only seen a handful of 83-87 first gen Cougars with the rear 'C' pillar treatment for sale in the last 10 years.
Always reminds me of a Camry wagon.
Can't remember the last time I saw a 80-82 cube Cougar.
Always had a soft spot for the 89 Cougar XR7...in black!
Many still around?

Whats the go with the R390 tyres?

Could you just replace them with the normal replacements of the same size, 390mm is 15.35", would a normal 15" tyre seal?

No the standard tires sizes here are unsafe at best mounted on the Metric rims. Coker Tire sells them new for a insane price, so i was looking for a alternate that maybe could be imported.

These Fox body Birds and Cougars are very uncommon anymore. Most survivors are butchered and modded to hell, or rust buckets to be harvested for parts since little aftermarket support for these cars is available. Clean rust free original cars like this one are very hard to come by. I know there is a member on the FOX Thunderbird Cougar Forum i am a member of that has a right hand drive 83 white T-Bird in Oz.........cool car too.
