$14k I don't believe it a 30% residual on a 3 year old car.

A typical lease is more like the old 4 year 40% mark. 5 year 30% etc. In business you never pay more than you need to monthly even if you know you would lose on the final sale who cares do it June claim it as a deduction.

Something not right here.

I agree, but it was starting to look like I might be alone, heh.

Simply put, noone is 6 to 10 Grand worth of generous, and if they are, they shouldnt be running a business.

Borrow 16k, buy the car and take it to Chris at Bluepower. Get a CAPA Flash tuner box, and ask Chris to do a tune to set the rev limiter to 4000rpm, that way you should come under the power to weight ratio (though these things do have a fairly flat curve, don't they). Debadge it and no-one will know, plus you might even be legal in it's detuned state.

Chris will save the factory tune as well, so you can reset it at any time, but you would be better off just leaving the 4000rpm limit until you are off your Ps. Worth looking into, I reckon, for what is a bargain of a car. And it will only cost you 50c from a landline to talk to Chris (not on a mobile though - he likes a chat!).

What if the guy has got the car as part of his package and has first option to buy it out?? Company isn't down any if it fitted into his allowance for a car, and if he isn't purchasing a car and only starting a new lease on the next 1, the guy who is currently leasing the car isnt losing, the business isn't losing, it's more that someone is missing out on an easy potential gain.

If i was the guy, i'd buy it out, sell it privately and pocket the balance.

But if it is legitamate and he wants to help you out, buy it for sure, cannot go wrong for that price providing there is no finance on it, it hasn't been written off, or stolen.

If you wanna make an easy couple of grand, buy it, and i'll give you $16,000 for it any time you like! Seriously!

Sounds like a good deal, not a great one. The value of the car in my opinion is about $20k.

Look how many of them are in the paper. The price of fuel has put people off these notorious thristy cars (even if they are still great bang for your buck) - Many many owners are finding them hard to sell.

Also depends a little on the lease contract (finance lease or operating lease etc)and how well it being managed.

Also if you pulled the turbo badge of the back it would just look like every other n/a XR6. As long the copper didn't look to hard for the small intercooler upfront.

Do you know what insurance will cost you?.....a pretty penny I would think.

Haha, I'll have to come to your neck of the woods - xr6ts don't have that effect in Sydney.

Insurance and fuel will stuff up the flow of your day. And I wonder whether you would still be insured in an accident if your driving a car which your technically not supposed to drive as a p plater due to it's power to weight ratio - my guess is that it would be voided.

If you need an XR6 "turdbo" to pull chicks, something’s seriously wrong.

Get a quote on insurance, RACV check, calculate stamp duty on what Vicroads think it’s worth, work out what fuel and maintenance will cost you and then ask yourself if it’s a good deal?

If you have to get a loan to buy a car cheap and not be legally able to drive it for some time, it doesn’t make sense. Don’t fool yourself by thinking that you won’t get caught out if something goes wrong either. These days if you don’t obey the law with vehicle legality, you’re giving an insurance company a loophole the size of a truck to drive through.

Beware…

Mate, hate to tell yah but you can buy a car at end of lease through your or a mate's company (depending on how good a mate he is), and you can pick up absolute steals!!
I bought my BA for a measly $10k last year for myself. I've done the same thing for my parents and both my brothers and a couple of mates. And I am in the process of buying my 2nd territory for $12k and it only has 60k on the clock and I already have buyer lined up for $26k... Its an easy way for me to make a few extra dollars to spend on my car. Only catch is you will need to get the roadworthy and rego done as a condition - well usually thats the case. But at the end of the day well worth it.
I just buy the company cars coming off lease at work, they get to get a new car for the rep and instead of paying out the residual of the lease they get someone else to do it for them, its a win - win situation for everyone involved. Lease company gets their payment, company gets rid of the car without having to make the last payment, and the buyer picks up a great car for really low dollars!! Happens everywhere!! At the end of the day, if an employee doesn't buy it then the local ford dealership buys it for the residual off the lease company, does a service, details it and marks it back up to market value. You must be working for the wrong company me thinks!! :

Tonko351 - go for it buddy!! Great car for low dollars - at the end of the day you won't lose on a car like that, whether you keep it or sell it... an xr6t with only 55k on the clock for $14k - you'd be squirrel nuts not to buy it!!

You could push close to $25k on resale privately and make an easy $11k for yourself, pick up an EL XR6 and customise it... Just a thought...

Lol, are you serious man??? You had the right idea until you hit the rev-limiting idea.

Better option would be: get the car, take off JUST the turbo badge (theres only 1 on the rear), give chris from bluepower a call for 50c and book in to have a MORE AGRESSIVE tune put in, and dont go home without at least 250rwkw!

BTW its useless using dyno figures and weighbridges to prove that your car is over/under pwr-to-weight as the only figure the police use is the one printed on the rego sticker and factory info.

Off topic, but why bother?

Once the bonnet is open, it's game over.

Also, why go to all the hassle with the law, when in a few years, you will have the rest of your life?

Is it really worth it?

Cheers

its called humour dude, i wasnt being serious...

anyways...
i dont think just pulling off the turbo badge is a good idea, as soon as one copper pulls me over and checks it its game over, they will all know and there will be a green light on me and my car

If the company paid out last payment of lease (residual). Would they expect to get more from a dealer to buy it? Or are you saying that the wouldnt?

mate... my BA I6 is more powerful than an EB XR8 stock for stock, the Honda S2000 NA 2.0L is also more powerful! Gotta love those old school V8's. If the limit is 125kw/ton then the EB GT would be allowed as it puts out 200Kw and weighs 1650kg = 121kw/ton.
