Yes, I don't know how many black Superamericas left the factory, but three red ones and this black one came to OZ. One of the red ones later went on to NZ.

I know what you mean about the sound, another very successful life long friend of mine in Sydney had three. A 308, a 360 Modena and an F430. I haven't driven them but I've been a passenger in all of them and like you say, when you put the boot in those Ferrari V8's that certain scream sends a shiver up your spine.

This Superamerica had a deep V12 growl but I didn't have an opportunity to really stick it up it so I don't know how it sounds at full noise.

And yeh, the car is pretty cool to.

Not my cup of tea, but then again, I'm not likely to ever have the coin to even contemplate the purchase, or lease of such exotic machinery. (Wipes drool off of desk)

That's right 51RTE, and that's why I put the thread up.

Some of my network of friends have been very successful in life (all started with nothing) and when I was unexpectantly asked if I would like a steer, the first thing I did was take the photos at the start of this thread with the sole intention of posting my experience up here for all us enthusiasts to share.

Thanks, most of us do need to live vicariously! The best I have managed is parking a barristers early 2000's E55 AMG when I was a law clerk... but that was the BEST trip around the block ever!

You got me there Pinch ... I was vaguely familiar with the word, but had to look it up to get the true meaning .... "experienced through somebody else rather than at first hand, by using sympathy or the power of the imagination".

Those E55 AMG's are quite something aren't they. That friend of mine in Sydney with the tree Ferrari's (see post #32) has one as his daily driver.

You are a lucky bugger Pedro, great car but I still cant work out why they gave it the shocker of a name "Superamerica". Should have called it Superitaly.

Because phrases like Superamerica & California are redolent with memories of some of the Ferraris of the 50's & 60's. They reused GTO (gran turisimo omoglamato) & GTO LM back in the 80's.

I always liked the idea of the adjustable tinted roof on the Superanerica and wonder why it hasn't appeared on many other cars (I think the vette and mercedes sl are the only other ones that use it)

For the information of those who don't know (like I didn't), the fold down roof on the Superamerica has a console dial adjuster that can change the roof panel from clear to dark (about 10 settings I think). When my mate bought the car it was still under warranty and the roof panel was playing up. After some failed attempts to make it work properly, it was replaced under warranty at a cost of ..... $45,000!!!!!!!! True!

Thats not hard to believe at all,back in the 70s the rear screen on a Jensen Interceptor was about $3000.00 and it was nothing special except for the curve of it.

I get stressed about something breaking on my porsche. $45,000 for a sunroof is a whole new level of insanity!!!

No, we went for a drive in the Ferrari first with me driving and then we took the F6 out with him driving.

I was only able to give the Ferrari a short blast on an on-ramp to the freeway and using the paddles I got to fourth and then had to brake to slow down to the 110km speed limit ... it was quite impressive.

Same with the F6, he was only able to give it a couple of bursts of acceleration, and both times it brought a big grin on his face. He was very impressed and reckoned it's a great car and he wasn't aware that F6's were that quick!
