is it more Toyota or Subaru?

Guess final specs and prices of each brand would be important, but I think if I were in the market the flat 4 would make me feel it was a Subaru.

My Mum was banging on about it when I visited her yesterday (not a **** stir, she really was)

I guess because it is paying homage to the AE86, I would pick the Toyota badged car over the Subaru.

What like a mustang engine with a jaguar gearbox in a falcon chassis?

With direct injection systems, you can't fit physically larger injectors can you? The injector is actually inside the head, how would you do the planned forced induction without extra fuel?

is it possible to redrill injectors to allow for a higher flow rate?

im sure one of them will have bigger injectors for the supercharged version anyway.

It might be a bitsa, but you can guarantee that with Toyota and Subaru involved, one thing’s for sure, it will definitely work.

Shall we forget about the engine failures with the TRD Aurions? Or the WRX gearbox that's made of glass? Just sayin'!

Prodrive, Harrop in clear as Toyota seeks cause of TRD Aurion engine failure
28 September 2007
By DAVID HASSALL
TOYOTA Australia has yet to reveal the exact cause of a mysterious and embarrassing engine failure that led the company to withdraw its high-performance Aurion TRD from sale just weeks after it was released.

However, suppliers Prodrive, which modifies the basic Aurion for Toyota, and Eaton supercharger agent Harrop Engineering have both been cleared of responsibility.

Toyota maintains that the failure of the 3.5-litre supercharged V6 is an isolated case and has resumed production of the car, but stocks are being held back from dealers.

The company suspended sales of the TRD Aurion last week after an engine failed while being driven by a Melbourne dealer salesman.

“(TRD) are still doing their testing so they are not up to a point where they want to say anything yet,” said company spokesman Mike Breen on Monday.

“Once they got the engine back it was already detonated so it was hard to see what was cause and what was effect, so that’s been a challenge for them.

“They’ve been trying to replicate the situation the dealer had the car in to see if they could make it happen again and they’ve been checking the engines internals with an endoscope to see if there was any foreign matter inside the engines. But so far they haven’t found anything untoward.

“They still maintain it’s an isolated case, but until we are 110 per cent sure we’re just not willing to send them out. It might seem an over-reaction, but that’s the Toyota way.”

Mr Breen said that Prodrive was “totally in the clear” after checking the 150 cars built to date at its new facility near the Toyota factory in Altona.

“It’s not a Prodrive concern. One of the reasons (the engineers) wanted to look inside the engines was to make sure that during the changing of components some foreign matter didn’t fall inside inadvertently,” he said.

“They haven’t found anything to suggest that, and they didn’t think they would because the way things are done by Prodrive there’s no reason to think that anything could find it’s way inside the engine.

“Harrop dissected the supercharger that was on the car and checked it to make sure there were no problems with the castings or anything like that and they’re 100 per cent in the clear as well.”

No, but after time someone may do aftermarket ones, if there is the demand. There may also be quite a bit of scope left as to how much fuel they can actually flow.

Yes you can, it's the same as when everyone went to port fuel injection, for a while there
were no larger injectors available and then the aftermarket caught up..

Just like you'd want to forget, the rust issue in AU's, ball joints in Territory's, paint peeling off BA's...

...what?...a small number of idiots don't inevitably rev the hell out of brand new performance cars anymore, then when it blows, inevitably shrug and claim ignorance, saying "Hey, wasn't me...must be a fault with the car..." I'd bet lefty that Ford has hadmore than a few of them with XR6T's...

Doesn't matter how it was driven, the car companies will thrash the hell out of their vehicles more than anyone ever could on the street, they do this to check for weaknesses. If one of them blew up in the hands of the customer its mean they failed somewhere in their testing, or it was an assembly or part quality issue.

There solution was to drop the rev limit by 500rpm.

After a chat with my local dealer today, they are expecting to have an auto and manual available for a test drive on the weekend.

The missus is keen, so hoping to get down for a look on Saturday morning.

Does anyone have a pic with the Toyota and the Subaru side by side? Are they exactly the same or are there subtle differences? I know I can googlle this but on a friends comp atm.
