Refugee protesters active in Brisbane today. No doubt Extinction Rebellion will be itching to get out and save us from climate change. Seems it is back to BAU with these people, let’s hope C19 doesn’t re-emerge!

Been reading a few tales in the news where it seemed the Government were maybe holding a little too tightly onto people here, when they had good reason to leave and no further means of support in Australia.

Konfetka got an exemption to travel yesterday, she was going stir-crazy in Sydney and the family weren’t helping by pretty much constantly pinging her from Riga with video calls and clips of the grandchildren being totally adorable kids.

I was surprised, she stubbornly* booked a fare 12 hours before fee-for-quarantine became mandated and then busied herself with preparing the application for exemption to leave. Permission was granted on the basis that documented necessary dental work was unaffordable to her in Australia but economical in Europe even with the flight costs considered.

*A stubborn Russian woman? Who’d have thought it?

Mask is a fairly open description, can be a scarf, can be homemade, Franco’s horse head would probably be accepted. There will be further massive price gouging on N95 Mask’s. Yet to see Danny boy ever wear a mask 😷

Some creative types there. I’ve wondered about an integrated roll-up party whistle, if you sneeze it squeaks and unfurls.

I can ask the creepy old guy at work. On the side he used to make made to customer spec gimp masks. Not sure why or how you get into a side game like that. But apparently due to low volume theres a profit in it. I cannot even explain how strange this old guy is.

Not conflicting. That is the current recommendations.

As per the link I provided, mandatory mask wearing doesn't come into effect until 11:59pm on Wednesday.

What is conflicting however, is the fact that it won't be mandatory for teachers to wear masks (??). In a class full of students.

Only for people who reside in Metropolitan Melbourne/Mitchell Shire - so even though I work in Brimbank, I live outside this area, to me that means I don't need to wear a mask.

No problem. There's a few $200 fines with your name on it coming your way then. Possibly even an ICU bed with your name on it.

Reading and comprehension seems to be the real issue with why this is getting out of control and spreading. See above.

$200 is nothing - I'm happy to run the gauntlet.

I'm looking forward to crapping up the appeals system when heaps of us start contesting fines

The article on the ABC I read stated that the requirement to wear a mask also applied to those who lived outside the metro/Mitchell area but needed to visit those areas for any of the four approved reasons.

Confirmed here Franco:

Quote:
Face coverings in regional Victoria continue to be recommended in situations where maintaining 1.5 metres distance is not possible – however regional Victorians will have to wear a mask when visiting metropolitan Melbourne or Mitchell Shire for one of the permitted reasons.

I've been generally supportive of the government's actions to date, this situation is unprecedented, and I can't imagine it would be easy to set policies on the fly that affect lives either way. But their DHHS website needs a lot of work. It's not easy to find the exact info you are looking for, and the info seems to be out of date. If you are going to dish out hefty fines, then you better set the rules clearly, which they have not done.

Case in point. The DHHS website states you are currently allowed to visit one non family member for reasons including providing mental health care support. This is something I do for a friend of mine, she lives alone, and relies on me to come visit once or twice a week. I'm not a professional health care worker, just a friend to provide moral support. I messaged DHHS this afternoon to seek clarification on whether I can continue to do this (despite their website saying I can). They said "under current rules, no". WTF? They said, however we can both meet somewhere to exercise. I asked, would travelling 16kms to meet her be reasonable? They didn't say "no", but suggested we meet half way to cut travel distance down. How the hell does that make any difference, if one person travels 16km or two people travel 8kms? They also gave me a heads up that police were still doing "spot checks", and wouldn't confirm that travelling 8kms to exercise would not get me a fine. WTF!?!?
