This is the guy - Bruce Berkeley, who was going to attempt the biggest distance in a year, he rode over 10,000 km in January before finding that the Guiness World Record people weren't going to accept his attempt. He was doing around 330km per day in Adelaide.

I honestly love it. I would highly recommend getting 25c tyres for it ASAP, as I personally find it that touch too harsh out of the box.

Went in and saw this bike in the flesh and god it looks great. Very light and stealth and oozing with quality. Took my current steed in for a trade in quote and was left with a 3899.00 buy price.
My budget was @ 3500 or less and i really wanted that bike.....nothing else would do.....so i left the shop with my old bike hating myself for being so "poor"......

Damned TDF gets you all hyped ands stuff and you just want , want and more want.... ha ha.

On a positive note , back on the bike after many months of hybernation. Had a decent fall a while back and hurt my right wrist , hip and knee....
Smashed my mobile phone and damaged both tyres and drew some lines in the pavement with my pedals at 25 klmh..
luckily was more of a skid and no other damage to bike. I used my body to shield it.... you know, broken bones mend and all that and broken bikes just cost too much moneyz.. LOL !!!

Maybe hold off for a few extra months and it'll come in to your price range? Or in that time you'll have found the extra coin behind the sofa

I think it was because there were no overseeing adjudicators, they would not accept Strava data, along with photos taken each day.

I have a Specialized Air Tool Comp track pump with a guage at the foot of the pump . Has a very good attachment enabling you to pump both short and long presto values .

can't fault it.... but then, all it has to do is pump up tyres.

comes with attachments to pump up balls etc as well, which has come in handy.

cannot go wrong with the Joe Blow pumps.
My old LBS used to have them as their shop pump, and have had mine for 10+ years without issue.
Only thing wrong with it is a broken clip to hold the pump barrel in place.
Dial is easy to read.

Have been using a parktool floor pump for about 4years now. Been great. I also came off two months ago at a gravity enduro. Ended up breaking my elbow and stitches to my face above and below eye. Think I didn't tuck and roll in time?? And was a fast section basically all rock.
Only just started riding to work again on the roady. Maybe first MTB ride this coming weekend but will be slow trail riding.... It has really sparked my off giving the XY some love though. Couldn't do much but can jack, and do bits one armed. Now the car is up getting new fuel lines 1/2inch along with sender. Modding the rear sway bar mounts to fit over the huge *** housing of the newish 9", and finally add the elec ignition and rev limiter! Biking is going to take a back seat for a bit. Loving working on the car again. Also started running....

Bad luck with the crash, XYGTHO, there's definitely a lot more hazards with MTB, unless you stick to fire trails.

My pump fell off my road bike a couple of months ago, and I went back to retrieve it, put it back in the holder and carried on riding. I went to transfer the holder and pump to my new road bike, and had a closer look at the pump... looks like a car has run over it, one side looks fine, the other is flattened. I didn't notice it when I picked it up off the road. I've been carrying an O2 pump since, but never used one before.

So now I'm up for a hand pump.

The floor pump I have is a generic $60 job I bought from 99 Bikes when I first got into cycling. Sometimes the gauge doesn't work.

If you find a good hand pump let me know. C02 seems best but expensive. My larger hand pump works ok on the mtb. The best one I have is an old school one I carry in my work bag where you screw the flexible hose on it. Its about 40cm long though lol

Small enough to go in back pocket of most jerseys also fits into most fake water bottle tool cases, takes a fair bit of pumping but gets the job done. Obviously MTB tyres take a lot more air but a lot less pressure, have only used this on the roadie and have used it many times amongst the group, have never tried it on the MTB.

purchased a similar type Lezyne hand pump from wiggle last week, by all reports they are quite good
Should the need ever arise, that small hose should make road side pumping a little easier.

I picked up this GIYO mini hand pump some time ago - used it once and found it very effective. Takes a bit of effort but seals well and works no probs.......and it has a carbon finish. Has to be carbon !!

I wasnt aware that Ford now sponsored the team - I saw the team in Sun Tour earlier this year and they were still driving Jaguar - well I thought they were , they could have been Mondeo wagon's ?

They changed around March IIRC and have been using Mondeos as team cars.

They also have a black Mustang GT with the SKY blue stripe across it.

Came within a split second of being crashed into by a white Camry that didn't see me and pulled out from a stop-signed side road. It was bloody close, and yes I did swear.

Thanks mate. It was no fun at all and made much scarier due to the fact that my brakes didn't do much besides making a terrible squealing noise. The brake failure was probably due to the rain but it also seems like the pads I bought are useless as soon as they get wet.

This is what happened:

I actually noticed the Camry had crept over his stop line and I made the observation that he might pull out but it still shocked me because I was directly in his field of view when he pulled out. I should have just trusted my instincts from the moment I saw him but there wasn't really anywhere I could go at the time. It was just one of those terribly awkward moments when you can only hope and trust that the other road user knows you're there!

I lost my chill a bit, I won't lie. When he pulled out I did initially respond with "what the ******* are you doing!?" and turned to look back at the Camry while giving him the arm expressions of "you nearly hit me!" but straight away the guy opened his window and said "I'm so sorry mate. I didn't see you!" As soon as it came, the shock passed - I gave him the "no worries" wave and did a u-turn because I was actually about to turn down the road he had come out of but had to deviate course to avoid him!

At the end of the day, human mistakes happen and after a few seconds of surprise I totally let it go but I am very aware that this anonymous driver's moment of inattention could have had bad consequences. All's well that ends well though, I'm not going to worry over "could've beens". I remind myself that avoiding rogue Camry drivers is just part of cycling.

Im glad you're ok. In those situations Im actually surprised you got an apology. Most drivers in this situation flick you the middle finger or abuse you verbally for being on the road in the first place, therefore not claiming an ounce of accountability.

Education for drivers is a must. A commercial stating that they need to be aware of cyclists on the road will help no end to reducing incidents such as this. Still we (cyclists) need to be on our guard for ignorant people out there regardless.

Road bikes suck balls once it gets wet. Hence why I am grateful for disc brakes on my commuter, least in the wet you still get braking power.

The Propel, ha! good luck, you might as well pray to god or braking performance, it aint coming.

Thanks. I know, it was actually a bit of an odd experience. I cycle almost every day so suffice to say this definitely isn't my first near-miss with a car but I'm pretty sure it is the first time a driver has immediately admitted fault and bothered to say sorry. That's the only reason I was able to let it go so quickly.

I totally agree. imo most car drivers think they own the road. I'll admit I used to be just like that when I first got my license. It wasn't that I wished any cyclist ill-will, I simply didn't have the appropriate understanding because I had no experience of cycling - I have a feeling most drivers are like this. It seems like a lot of people will just glance left/right at a stop and if there isn't a car-sized object coming their way, they go!

I figure all we can do is stay aware of our surroundings and try to always have an exit-strategy. We really have to just focus on keeping ourselves safe because nobody else is going to! That's the main lesson I've learned on two wheels.

I think it's safe to say that disc brakes will be on my "must have" list for the next bike.

My Synapse Hi-Mod Black Inc has discs but that beauty is not going to see rain lol I will deal with no brakes instead on the Defy :-) Or use the trainer... I actually cycled around London for 90 minutes this evening on the Wahoo Kickr / Zwift and it rained and I didn't get wet :-)
