steering wheels buttons

Heya

Can you remove the left switches (stereo) without removing the right (Cruise Control) ???

The below pic has the buttons im talking about

I cant see there being any problems. Just unscrew that side and clip the loom.

yep, just take your airbag off and unscrew the buttons - 2 phillips head screws hold them on.

why do you want to remove them though?

Well i want to finally get a CD Player in my car, and Strathfield Car Radios cant hook it up to the existing buttons on the steering wheel, and it would look stupid having those buttons if i cant use them. but i want the cruise control still. I was going to get a CD/MP3 player and use the pocket, but a full screen taking up the whole unit would look mad.

What brand of CD player are you getting? Some of them are compatible with the steering wheel controls, Im pretty sure with most Pioneer models you can get an addon that makes them work.

If you get 2 remotes with your headunit , and if you can afford to spare 1 for a mod , and providing you know some basic electronics , it would be fairly easy to mount 1 of the remotes (modded) behind the headunit hidden away. You could quiet easilly power the modded remote from the cars power instead of a tiny battery , then wire the steering wheels radio buttons up to the remote to over-ride the buttons on the remote. You could make just about any headunit work with the buttons this way . cheers.

My Alpine head unit use's a wireless connection for its controls and it will cost a heap to make my current controls on the steering wheel work with it. (have to buy a wireless peice and convert from BMW etc to be compatible...)

Or i could be possible play with the wireing from the remote but i dont know how and dont know how weel it would work.

So i just left the buttons there as it would look rather lop sided with just one set of buttons there, even though they dont work as of yet.

you can still use your speed alert with those buttons...just some incentive to leave them on

You can buy a few adapters. Lightning Audio & Stinger make one. There is also another popular one.

Expect to pay about $100-200 fitted.

Do a search, it's been covered many of times. I should do an article on it.
