Thumbs up Interesting Article for AUII/III XR8 220 owners

Saw an interesting article in Issue 27 of the Australian Muscle Car Magazine suggesting that the AUII/III XR8 220 will become a classic collectable Australian Muscle car in the future, comparing it to the XE Falcon GL 5.8 Interceptor of the 80's.

Quote:

"Those who have bought one know they own something special, even if detailing took a back seat to hardware. They have an agility missing from later models, a willing V8 that rewarded alert driving and it was the last mainstream Windsor XR8 model with a Tickford pedigree."

Congtratulations to Joe Kenwright for a great article.

Not bad considering some of the comments that have been levelled at the AU in the past! And finally, who was it having trouble deciding between a 6 or a V8?

Didnt think any XR8's hand hand built engines thought that was reserved for T series, i may be wrong though

Hand built refers to lifting the heads off to see if the bores were rusty
and changeing the cam, plus 1.72 rockers for 220.

My opinion is unless it's the stroker then it wont be at all collectable in the future. My au xr8 ute had the hand built plate on the engine and was only the 200kw version series three.

This might help.
http://www.fpv.com.au/theheritage/fa...ite50ts50.aspx

A section from the article:
"The AU TE50 combined the best of XR engineering, T-Series styling, the 200 kW Synergy 5000 engine, grooved performance brakes and 17 inch Speedline alloys. The AUII TE50 from October 2000 introduced Ford's laminated firewall and gained the TS50's 220 kW engine, extra body highlights and body packages, more colour and trim options. From April/May 2001, the alloy heads were replaced with a locally-worked cast-iron head with special stainless steel valves, combustion "

So if it's a series 2 built after 10/2000, it will be a 220, otherwise 'only' a 200.

That would have been me, so lucky I went for the 220 V8, as if there was any "real" choice anyway.

Very very true ! Having had a S111XR8 they sure are a good thing !
I suspect the main reason they will be sought after is that the T3Stroker's are in limited numbers compared to the XR8220.
Sure will make the Stroker even more desirable :sm_headba
Long live the Windsor Ticky 8's : :

I called the S3XR8 a long whle back as one to watch, and will call up front the BAGT MK2 as another that will do very well, not yet but you can also add the enforcer and devilr as sought after BAXR8's

Especially in manual form, because there were only 300 of those in AUIII XR8 guise.

I would have thought that if any were going to be collectable they would have have to be the T series, especially the T3 strokers.

That being said, the AU XRs are one of the most horn looking Fords ever, and they may have a collectors niche for this reason
