Default EL headlight removal.

Hey guys, I need to get my drivers side headlight out (low series EL) and wouldn't have a clue how. I've got an EF service manual and it says that you have to remove the bumper, is EL the same or is there a way around dropping the bumper?

Cheers.

I know you have to drop the bumper, a panel beater mate told me that - sorry for the bad news.

No you dont have to drop the bumper bar unless it is different on Fairmonts as my mate removed mine without dropping the bumper bar.

Of course you have to remove the indicator housings first.

Its just a bit of a squeeze and fiddle to get them out and you have to push the bumper bar down which sits below the headlight whilst removing them as they get caught there.

But they are plastic bumper bars so they bend....

it is different on the fairmonts and you dont have to drop the bar on a fairmont and you can get away with just undoing the clips at the top of the "grille" area on an EF, but you do on an EL due to the headlight having a slightly "shorter" lens, the front bar covers the light too much to get at it...

you dont have to remove the bar completley, but you have to undo the side your wanting to get out....

remove the black plastic cover from between the lights, disconnect the horn wires if you remove the whole bar, undo the front half of the splash gaurd in the wheel arch, turn the bumper side supports 90* and then remove the large bumper retaining nuts.
