Default Ford burns $12 Billion in Brazil

Unfortunate news about Ford's woes in Brazil. Also, some more movements into China....

A lot of similarities between Brazil's auto industry and our own it would seem.

The government is trying to prop it up but to no avail. Ford is not alone in their losses there. Watch them all leave now just like what happened here.

I suspect Brazil's labour and transport costs would be lower than Australia's.

Maybe the problem is Ford, they milk everyone's government for tax payer dollars then cut and run

Yet they still blame the costs of production as to why they have to sell cars there for much more than N.A. They did the same thing here.
Then at the end of the article they say the made in mexico SUV will sell in Brazil for double the cost of N.A.

On Thursday, Ford launched its new Bronco Sport SUV in Brazil. Made in Mexico, it is exported to the U.S. where it starts at $26,820. In Brazil, where per capita income is much lower, Ford said the Mexican-made car will retail for $48,000.
Anyone get the feeling they just subsidize low costs to N.A. by ripping every other country off, so the high wages elsewhere causes the high prices outside of n.a. is a lie?

It's easily fixed, if Brazilians refuse to buy it the company will learn real quick it cannot get away with it.

I don't know why they stuck with Brazil production for so long. The One Ford plan to delete orphan cars was more than a decade ago, but Brazil was still building cars unique to their market, and losing money on every one they sold. They build cars in Argentina, so they probably already export the Ranger to Brazil from there.

Yep. Ford Australia did the development work on the Figo, Escort and Taurus etc and they sold very well and were good vehicles. Brazil did the Ecosport, and it was a bucket of ****.

It was designed to be a cheap and nasty thing to suit their market. Was Ford even the slightest bit surprised that when they tried to export it to more mature markets, and it was so poorly regarded? Initially it was ok, because the small SUV market had barely started, but within a year or 2 when more upmarket small SUV's hit the market, like the CX3 etc, it suddenly looked massively out done. The Puma was a step in the right direction, cause it's designed for the more advanced nations. The Ecosport is now just used to sell in 3rd world countries. And the USA, which is becoming 3rd world very quickly
