Default Paying stamp duty twice on your car

Someone has just told me that to move interstate in to NSW with your own vehicle, you need to pay stamp duty on the car AGAIN to have it registered in NSW?

I mean, I called RTA and they confirmed this but I am still in disbelief.

Anyone like to confirm this to be the case?

You also have to pay Stamp Duty on the GST ..... This annoys the hell out of Me No end...

The GST was supposed to eliminate all this double dipping & paying Tax on a Tax..!!!

There's only three things certain in life

Death
Taxes

Only have to usually pay stamp duty when transferring ownership, not changing adress/moving interstate.

I had a look on the NSW TMR website and you have an exemption the same as Qld and probably the other states as well.

It's the fifth one under general exemptions:

It looks like as long as you can prove that you are the current owner, with current papers, you will be exempt.

I know from experience though, if you are purchasing a car from interstate, you do need to pay stamp duty to establish the 'new' registration in your name.

Sounds like something the SA govt would do. Ive paid stamp duty on my house twice, once when i bought it with my then wife, and again when i transfered it to just my name, as it wasnt my principle place of residence at separation. A**holes.
