I'd rather drive a hydrogen powered vehicle than an EV.

There have been articles published, often by organisations aligned with renewable energy companies, about banning sales of new petrol or diesel powered cars from 2030, but it’s speculation and doesn’t mention the continuing use of existing cars after that date.
Here’s a link or two to speculative articles: https://www.theguardian.com/environm...green-alliance https://reneweconomy.com.au/why-ther...-by-2027-2027/

If there was a hydrogen cell car , when it gets old , don't call it an old bomb.
Could be very very disastrous ... |

You can also run hydrogen as a fuel in an internal combustion engine, zero pollution.
I think chemical energy sources are still ahead of electrical / battery storage.. |

Why wouldnt they use hydrogen as a peak load supply?
Surely on an industrial size they could make it cost effective and safe/environmental enough to please the man buns and hairy armpits?

The freedom for consumers not to rely and have to visit hydrogen stations is liberating.
I can charge at home from my solar panels, home battery or from the grid at off peak rates. 10 cents a k/w 10pm to 7am. You can charge anywhere at shopping car parks or on the street etc... Hydrogen cars are not selling at all. I can see hydrogen only really being successful in long range trucks. Sales of electric vehicles (EVs) worldwide reached 1.09 million units in 2017, up by 57%, supported by lower battery prices and strong demand in China. - By year-end 2017, a total of 6,364 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles have been sold .. Isn't reliance on battery stored electricity for longer term energy strategies just replacing one limited resource (fossil fuels) with another (Lithium)?

Beijing had to restrict who can use their cars on certain days to reduce pollution. We have to go to war for oil and the world has to rely on the middle east and Russia. Australia has one of the largest deposits of lithium. People can stop bitching about fuel prices and just charge from solar panels, batteries or the grid. |

Do you really think that Govco are going to let you use the roads for free? Your $10k battery that wears out buys a lot of petrol. Your $10k Chinese solar farm that wears out also buys a lot of petrol. No free lunches for bearded hipsters.

There's nothing more certain.
Infrastructure has to be paid for. Haven't heard anything for a while though, there was a bit of a flurry 12 months ago.
