Default New Holden Dual Cab Ute spotted!

Saw this on my drive home from work the other day. I guess it's better than a Colorado given what many reviewers say about it.

These were done by a Lake Macquarie (Newcastle) business back early 2000's. They made dual cabs and one tonners from rear-ended wrecked sedans. I think they were called 'the new one tonner company' or something similar..
When Holden released the Crewman and OneTonner, it put them out of the game.

The New One Tonner Company (NOTC) kicked off back in the mid 90s, doing VN-VS models initially, and then carried into later VT-VX/WH models as they were released. A mate of mine up the coast had a VQ Statesman version that was an early car (single cab ute). Most of the early ones (VN-VS) were single cab tonners. There's been a few of those 4-door VT type one getting around - 15 years ago a white one used to frequent an industrial park in Unanderra.

The design of the "torque arm/torque box" on the rear of the cab was protected IP by NOTC, and Holden had to do a deal with them to either buy the patent, or licence the concept - I can't remember the exact details of it now - that's why they shut up shop, as it was part of the deal done with Holden before the VY Tonner was released.

There's a good Autospeed article on them here:
http://www.autospeed.com/cms/article...-Tonner&A=1394

Another clever outfit was Colin Box from Colac in Vic - he used to turn commodore wagons into 4-door utes in the 90s, and even did earlier Holdens.

Been plenty of old Holden's (and other makes) made into utes over the years.

Even Monaro's

You learn something new every day. It looked rather odd indeed.

I remember these from the turn of the century, when Holden delayed the release of the VT ute. An aftermarket company created Utes out of VT sedans as mentioned in the earlier post

It's a pity Ford and Holden couldn't produce something like this today. Looks sleek, a useable tray length on a decent wheelbase and would cruise well.
Not everyone needs a short, raised 4 X 4 with a tray hanging off behind the back wheels like what is offered today.
