There design, package and price is just killing it at the moment.

I honestly havent heard much about their dealership's and warranty though? Which I guess you could take as a good thing?

Our CX5 will be 3 years old in April. Mazda have already contacted us as the new model CX5 is due in Feb 2015. They have advised us of all the changes in the new model, and are bringing the new model to me for a test drive once it has landed. Can't ask for much more than that. Wifey loves the CX5. I miss the Pajero............mind you I'd be lucky to drive it 4 times a year........

obviously not a diesel which has had some engine issues resulting in direct replacement..

good to hear you have a good one, a lot of stories floating around, re oil dilution issue's. Maybe the latest ECM update has created a permanent fix.

I went to buy a diesel CX5 for my wife and left with the petrol.
Salesman said I don't want to add you to the que at our service department, tons of problems apparently.
First time a dealership has ever recommended a cheaper model.

I think the major problems are from those cars that don't get out on such trips and get to burn all the crap out of their systems etc

Why don't manufacturers find these problems before release???? eg Tezza ball joints
'Wow, people are cancelling their orders out in Europe and Australia for the SkyActive Diesel due to the problems of diesel fuel overfilling the crankcase.

Mazda's response to this is that the owner MUST check their dipstick level every 600 miles or Mazda will void the warranty if and when the engine seizes.

So Mazda is basically putting the owner on notice that if they don't check their dipstick oil levels every 600 miles, they are not performing proper maintenance and if the crankcase gets sucked dry or overfilled with diesel fuel, your engine will fail and Mazda will not cover it under warranty:

Mazda is also calling for oil changes every 2,000km or 1,200 miles:'

It's been an on going known issue with Mazda over a number of years starting with the cx7 diesel and has extended into the cx5, i wouldn't want to be out of warranty and see the oil light illuminate.

MY cousin has bought 2 brand new mazda's in the last 2 years an sp25 for himself and a cx-5 for his mrs.

Loves the service and and the cars are great value for money and reckon's the service department is great to deal with he had a ve clubbt before that and said dealing with holden and mazda is like day and night

my dads diesel mazda 3 has over 250000km and runs beautifully, looks like we were lucky to have missed a lemon.

Wasn't luck, it is a different diesel engine to the cx5..

The Mazda BL 3 and GH 6 diesels had the same issues with oil dilution and also DPF problems. The dipstick has an X on it above the full mark. If the oil level gets to the X you need to change the oil. Both issues only occur with vehicles that do very short trips all the time. Ie less than 5 minutes.

We had no issues with our GH Mazda 6 diesel. It was an excellent vehicle. Plenty of power for the family hauler and returned 6L/100km day in day out.

I thought the problem was resolved on the skyactiv (current) models.

Unbelievable, and totally unacceptable. Glad I chanced upon this as I had been looking at Diesel SUV's of this type.

Any other diesels copping these types of problems? VW, Honda etc??

Hmmm that would suck, in the second paragraph it says an adjustment with the software that alters the way the particle filter operates is the fix,
still not overly reassuring.

It's a simple science, and dealers should be honest with it, if you put around town 10minutes at a time petrol is for you, if you good km's a day/ year say 15,000-20,000km then the diesel Is a good choice

The mazda diesel issues are only directly related to people who putt around and don't give adequate time for the exhaust treatment systems to work properly etc,

all other brands have similar issues with the small diesel passenger cars...

Just on the subject of small diesel engines, my brother used a hire 3ton rental truck a while ago he was going to shut it down and a dash light instructed him to drive it a couple more kilometers for the particle filter to do its thing.......... how common is this???
