CTP is what you pay with ya rego, in vic it covers you for medical between $300 and $500 only.
TFT or TPPD has to be taken out throu an insurer.
TFT covers you for damage you cause to other peoples vehicles and to your vehicle if stolen.
TPPD covers you for damage to other persons property as well as their vehicle.
Full comp covers everyone.

Yes, you do. Third party with rego is people insurance, not car insurance.
AND... if comp ins' was compulsory we might pay a lot less for it.

The way I see it, I pay insurance so I dont have to worry about this.. I agree with you 100%. My insurance can fix my car and deal with the other guy. If he doesnt have insurance I neither care nor do I want to know about it. Thats his problem to sort out.

You'd have to be stupid to drive around without at least some sort of insurance. It's not really that expensive, especially if you ever manage to hit someone and it's your fault. It's less than $450 for 3rd party fire and theft on my EB Fairmont, and I'm 19, obviously on my P's. Steffo, you must live in Bosnia.

Actually, it is illegal to have no insurance in the USA. When you hire a car your rate includes insurance, and then they ask if you want to pay the extra 20 odd dollars to reduce the excess, as well as cover the Loss Damage Waiver. In the USA, they have an insurance system like our CTP system here, but it also covers damage caused so it's like Compulsory Third Party Property. You simply cannot get registration in the USA without their CTP/P insurance. And unlike here, it is a felony to drive an unregistered/uninsured vehicle. Many a people have ruined their lives over thir stupidity with insurance.
