Actually years ago I tried to insure my car with shannons and they asked me a series of questions to confirm if I was a car enthusiast. They asked me if I attend track days and I said no.. then they said I wasnt a car enthusiast and could not provide me with cover??

Do shannons just try and box car enthusiasts in a corner then slug them with a hefty premium?

I think this thread proves car enthusiasts come in all shapes and sizes,

not owning a particular car doesnt seem to preclude people from being car enthusiasts according to the responses.

Even though I choose to buy fords I am also a holden/hsv enthusiast.

Does JustCar Insurance do over 25s? I'm with them and they're good with mods etc.

If you turned up to a Ferrari meeting in a Hyundai Tiberon and in getting to know the people were able to correctly identify 100 different Ferraris just from a photo and had a model collection of 2,643 different Ferraris I would say you would be thought of as an enthusiast.

As for Shannons rejecting you on the basis that you don't attend track days - (coughing) BS. When I contacted Shannons about insuring the BMW the asked me that as well. My response was no, not at the moment but possibly in the future. I just wanted a weekend cruiser and a car to show. They said to me if I wanted to put it in a rally for example, let them know before hand and I MAY have to pay a one off slightly increased monthly premium depending.

So, I have a slightly modified 28 y/o car and a moderately modified 13y/o XR6. Do I consider myself an enthusiast - bet your sweet *** I do.

I'm also an aircraft enthusiast, but I don't think I'll be able to park a Boeing 777-200LR in my driveway. Even if I could, I'd have to win the $70 million Powerball jackpot six times over to be able to afford it.

Or marry Gina Rinehart ... *shudder*

So no, I don't think you have to own something to be an enthusiast. And you definitely don't have to own something "special" either - whose call is it, anyway? My car is a stock standard BF Fairmont. It's special to me, because it's mine. I don't care what other people think.

You didn't answer the question hulk. Do you consider yourself an enthusiast even though you own a reasonably common car?

I don't care what Shannons thinks.

the genuine ferrari enthusiasts who own ferrari would look at you as a poor cousin. Sort of like the hanger-on-er-ers... someone looking to try experience a ferrari without coughing up the dough to buy one.

my theory is shannons/just car ask you those questions to box you in a corner knowing that noone else will insure this hobo, then hit you with a hefty premium. Sort of like finance companies that charge extortionate interest to people who have bad credit. Or australian fleet sales/motor finance wizard who rip off people who cant get credit elsewhere.
