Back in the "old days" if there was a blue, it was always one on one & the fight was finished if one person backed away or ended up on the ground, none of this once he's down lets stomp on his head or king hit him from behind. Grog is mostly involved but there are those who just have a massive chip on their shoulder & just want to lash out.
It's just not acceptable. Recently, in S.A. we had a case where an overseas tourist stepped in to break up a fight & the three that were fighting all set upon him resulting in his death. The courts seem to trivialise these sorts of incidents, as said on a previous post, " he was on drugs or he had a bad childhood, boohoo", what p#sspoor excuses. It's obvious that the normal justice processes don't work, perhaps we need altenative penalties, corporal or capital punishment? (I can hear the bleeding hearts & do-gooders whingeing now) And WTF is up with those idiots that gatecrash parties just to cause trouble & ruin everyones night? Put them in stocks & give them 100 lashes with a cane, they want to act like animals, treat them like animals, no hugs here. |

I have only ever seen one example of a king hit first hand and it went very very wrong for the "hero".
Outside the Royal hotel in Maryborough in 1981 at closing time a local thug was running about threatening and annoying random people as they were leaving. A bloke I went to school with was there talking to a girl when the "hero" wandered up with a "F her mate, I did" comment. He was told to go home and sleep it off. He started to walk away and then turned and king hit the bloke from behind knocking him into a wall and then onto the ground. The "hero" was a bit surprised when his victim just got up, turned towards him and that, I suspect, was the last thing he saw. He left in an ambulance and despite more that 30 witnesses the Police could not solve this "horrendous assault". Moral of story, before king hitting a funny little guy with short hair make sure they are not a SASR Trooper home on leave..... |

I don't understand why these meatheads need to go out looking for fights. It doesn't look cool or tough to hit someone from behind or kill them, thats way too far!
I went out late last year to Crown casino with my 2 work buddies, a change from chilling at maccas. As we were leaving minding our own business, 2 guys walked past us, "hey boys want to step over here away from the cameras and have some fun?" We just kept walking. Was a bit of a fright out of nowhere.... |

In both cases where friends of mine have been hurt it has been concluded by the authorities that the perpetrators were both high on meth('P' in NZ). In both cases my friends were just unlucky, doing nothing other than walking down the road. For one friend the reconstructive surgeon said one more hit in the same place would have killed him.
It was never proven but given the witness accounts, description, timing and surveillance footage they same thug who smashed my mates eye socket also bent a street sign pole right down the the ground, put his fist through the windscreen of a Commodore(car had to brake violently to avoid him stepping out onto the road randomly) and smashed his way through a car dealer's window display. Apparently the high aggravates aggression and numbs the pain. Thug might not even remember doing this stuff, although I expect he would have be sore once the high wore off.

this is why i just dont bother going out anymore
sure we'll go to the footy or the basketball or visit friends but the days of going into town or the pub have been long gone for us whats the point its costs you shiteloads of cash to drink (i work in the alcohol industry so get a quota of free alcohol) and there is always plenty of ********* id rather chill out at home, have a quiet one and watch a movie tbh that way i dont have to put up with drunk idiots of drugged up morons

Ive been doing martial arts for 25+ years, many styles including chinese animal styles.
I have honour and fight in such a way that gentlemen do.(if im backed into a corner) Now days people are scum, they will pack attack you or punch you from behind without even challenging you.I would treat a fight as a sparring session and would not have fun seriously hurting someone(my buddhist side) Even if your jackie chan it does not make you imune to the scum, most fights are not worth it especially if its just pride. Many of these idiots will still be idiots after you knock them out. In fact i dont really like young people now days lol, no morals or substance to them. |

^^^^^. Exactly.
When I was hip and shouldered in the Casino, I was walking through the shopping bit and and been locked in a room for the past four hours. He was just trying to show how tough he was to his mates. I've also found that being a larger chap encourages the idiot to have a go, as if they have to take on the largest in the room.

As for your little anecdotal story about some 'footballer' the law in any part of this country doesn't work anywhere close to that. "But your honour, he was being a smart-*** and his mate said he wanted to hit me first" "Oh okay, case dismissed!!" - yeah right. |

Watch what happens on the football field, they punch the crap out of each other and it's an accepted part of australian cultural life.
Ever seen any player get charged with assault for king hitting another player? Our kids get used to it and are told to harden up for a bit of "biffo" by the coach in high school. |

Haven't been out clubbing in a long while (probably a good thing). Last time I went out about 5 years ago, never got started on once. And when I have had trouble it's been with bouncers. Maybe because I'm a bigger guy but for some reason they always want me to leave, and say it's because I'm too drunk. Me being an ex door man myself, I always ask what makes them say that. I also say if I'm that drunk then you should be able to throw me out no problems at all. Last time this happened I ended up in the lock up, because they couldn't get me out and called the police.
But I would go out now as I have a young familly, and by the sound of these gang attacks it dosen't sound like a fair fight to me. And yeah you can say walk away, but I've alway been taught if there's a chance of a fight then get in first. Don't sit and wait to be hit as most of the time the first good hit dose the damage. So with that I think I'll just stay away from pubs and clubs as I'm no good on the alcohol. |

This is why you just be the grey man when you go out.
Sit with your mates, don't drawn attention....easy done. Even if you aren't being smart ash and starting people, if you are loud, obnoxious, etc I can guarantee there is someone in the club/pub who wants to smack you clean out.

Years back I was very close to being on the receiving end of a gang bash.
Me and the wife were out to see a friends band play. When we left and headed to the car, I of course needed to attend to nature :-) so walked to the rear of the carpark to the back fence, pretty dark back there. I saw a car stop suddenly on the street and 6 guys jumped out and before I knew it I was surrounded. I was scared. Ever tried talking your way out of a bashing with your dick hanging out your pants!? Funny now but I was thinking I'm done here, they looked angry. Apparently I had looked at one of them in the bar earlier. And I did recognise him, by his shirt, I recall looking at it inside because it had flames or some **** on the shoulders. Big deal, but he and his 5 mates were pumped. I kept talking, trying to find one of them with brains to understand I meant no harm. Meanwhile my wife was in the car watching and (again I laugh at the visual of this) she's maneuvered her tiny little Festiva to line up these clowns with the little headlights on, engine revving, (think mini-Christine ) and her calling out to me to hurry up and get in the car. Somehow, with the wife in wait mode and me still hanging out, they let me go with a few pushes and threats. I'll never forget it and analyse it still sometimes because I've never felt so vulnerable. I remember getting up and playing a few songs with my mates band that night in the bar and wonder if they chose to dislike me then and were always gonna go me. I did nothing wrong and I'm a background kinda fella so its not like I actively tried to aggravate anyone. I don't think I will ever know what set them off but it has stayed with me and always think how close I was to being like one of those stories in the paper. ****** |
