Default Tamworth Region Earthquake

Wow, felt both of them the other night, 1st- what the hell was that? 2nd- was that a earthquake? Na it was the hotwater system? Yeah right! It felt like one of those massive mining trucks sideswipping our house but in slow motion! They were only small around 4.2 on the richter scale but make no mistake, it was a scary little experience!

cheers,Maka

The second one was quike a thrill...you could fell it arriving.

Seems like there may be a minor fault line around the keepit area, and the recent dam upgrades are to improve its saftey in an earthquake event.

Interesting huh?

we had somethin like that up here in north queensland. A 5.2 hit Bowen in 2011. But it was so far down it didnt cause to much damage. we still felt it up here in Ingham. Makes me think there is a plate running underneath the eastern coast of Australia.

Seriously though the power of mother earth is totally mindboggling! In our lifetimes will we see a level 10 superquake? I reckon for sure! Thinking of the Armenian, Fukushima & Christchurch earthquake victims and what they went through....

cheers,Maka

A 4.2 is just a little tickle....

A shallow 7.1 is like grievous bodily harm on your senses. What surprised me about the first Canterbury quake was the noise it made.

Thanks for that info! I just found out Tamworth is situated in & around a small extinct volcano and where the tremor hit at Lake Keepit there is a small fault line running under it. I guess its another thing we'll have to keep an eye on lol!

cheers,Maka
