Backed out of the driveway today and had a small blob of thick greasy-oil sitting there. Looked under the hood and was greeted by this - driver's side driveshaft:
 It's everywhere  I'm hoping to get under the car later and have a closer look. Thinking its just driveshaft / CV grease at this stage. By the way, engine oil, coolant and brake fluid levels are all OK. No engine lights on. Idles fine. Any opinions? |

Look for a tear in the drive shaft boot or loose clip on the boot.
If its torn replace very quickly or you can get contamination in the joint and need a new CV. Worth also checking its not the transmission housing seal where the drive shaft enters it. |

thats identical to when I was changing the springs in my old lancer and we dropped one on the CV boot - after the next drive it looked the same inside...

Just got out from under the car. Looks like a tear in the inner CV boot. Will put it in for a service tomorrow. |

Just got back from Ford. They couldn't really find anything. They believe there may be a small tear in the CV boot (which can't be seen), which exapnds once it heats up.
Solution will be a CV boot replacement. |

you only need a very small hole for the grease to be spun out.
get the boot replaced asap. I hate how much mess it makes.

Got this fixed up at Ford about a month ago. $373 for new boot inc. labour. Ouch!
