The government will never let the petrol price drop below a dollar a litre. The excise and GST account for about 45 cents per litre and that is not a bad payment for a body that does NOTHING for it. The government does not pay for building refineries or oilrigs or the transport of the raw and manufactured good .... so why in hell should they get money for a resource that they put no money into.

With the 14 billion spare from the federal budget there is no reason why the government could not give the Australian Motoring Public a reduction of at least 20 cents a litre, after all we sent over 10 million dollars to the US to help out with the rebuilding of the cities of the Mexican Gulf and increased by 4 billion dollars the amount we give to countries for famine relief, etc.

It annoyed the hell out of me the other day when I saw on the TV a line of commonwealth cars waiting outside of parliment house with the engines idling - so our dear politicians can get into a warm car to take them to there home away from home which we the tax paying public also pay for.

We need Robin Hood or perhaps we should just pay everything we earn to the government as they get most of it now. :
