Default If it sounds too good to be true...

...it probably is.

I'm just wondering how many storm damaged cars will be flooding the market(pardon the pun).

People will be off loading cars that have been for a long deep swim and some unscrupulous panel beaters will be giving new cars that look they've been parked on a golf driving range a coat of bog and paint and flogging them off. :

So just a "buyer beware" people.

Yeah I can see this happening, lots of people offloading late model cars that have been flooded. The strong scent of odor-eliminator used by dealerships should ring alarm bells.

Could be good bargains to be found in hail damaged cars in yards though.

Peter Warren has new cars marked down by ~$5k and advertised as hail damaged. An Ego G6ET where you had to really look to find where hail had hit, I'm sure a dent puller could iron that puppy out for a couple of thou and you've got yourself a nice little saving there.

Unless I'm mistaken and they're replaced it with another Ego in the yard, it's still there and it would be an 09 plated car so even more savings could be made.

Flooding in Victoria and Queensland; that's never ever happened before.......
Must be climate change.

Auction houses like Pickles and Fowles will probably end up with quite a few of these cars.

LOL, good point. I myself have bought many second hand cars that were likely to have been involved in floods.

How could I tell you say?

When you take off an interior door sill trim in a and there's mud in there, you know!!!

They all end up as stat write offs and anyone who doesnt do a revs check on a car they are buying privately should be shot. Dealers have to disclose it.

When Syd had a big hail storm a year or 2 ago there were a fair few at the auctions.
6 months old BFII Fairmont ghia for around $10K, VE SSV with 11,000km on the clock for $22K, not too bad if you could repair them.

Why would they be stat write-offs? Hail damaged cars that is.. unless you're talking about flooded ones.

Generally they'd be repairable.

On a possibly related note, the Mythbusters have proven that golf ball-style dimples all over a car do indeed improve fuel efficiency and aerodynamics.

hail damaged stat write off means,
that the damage to the car would cost more to fix than its worth
every tried fixing hail damage, right royal pain
then theres the paint job on top
so judging wat a panel beater charges nowadays it doesnt take much for a stat write off
