Default Advise please guys (VCT).

Hey everyone I am looking into option for rebuilding the motor in the Ghia.
Now this will sound stupid as but is it possible to remove the VCT from a VCTI6?
From all I have seen on hear there are no real cam options for the VCT motors
so I am looking at the possibility of removing the VCT to allow for a bigger cam.
Now the obvious easy way would be to swap the head for a HP head but (and this
is so ) I really like the look of the little tickford badge on the front of the VCT head.
So is there a way I can retain this head but not have VCT. Maybe HP motors cam into VCT head????
Thanks in advance for ya help gents.

You would need to swap to a non-VCT ECU and possibly engine bay harness as well.

Given the differences on the front of the head though, I reckon you'd need to swap the whole head over, not just the cam.

As far as swapping ecu's when down grading as such, would this really be required? Couldn't the VCT ecu just be flashed to suit?

so you can utilise what ford gave us..

Yeah great idea. Trying to find a cam that the VCT doesn't over ride is the problem
from all I have ever read on here.

from what you have read what does the VCT actually do when it kicks in?

as far as im aware it just advances the cam to a spot that moves the powerband UP the rev range..

so you could go a monster cam that will be streetable down low due to retardation then go ballistic up top

My understanding is that if you put a bigger cam in the vct simply over rides it.
Now if this is the case can it be over come. There has to be a way.

how would it over ride it?? it is a mechanical device that moves the cam forward or backward(in a rotational direction)
as far as I can work out its only "switched" on and off via the ecu at XYZ RPM??

I am well aware of how it works. Thats not what I am asking.
As stated everything I read says no point doin a cam. VCT over rides
any cam modifications. If you can show me proof of an after market
bigger than standard cam working or you know how to over come this
issue than please do.

I found this while searching for answers this morning. So is there such a thing for
the I6?

there was somebody in the b series or 6 cyl forums, i cant remember which, but they were using a ba engine in a superstock car (or something) and had done cams but had disabled the variable cam timing
maybe something similar could work on the au vct? im not sure what or how they did it but might as well check it out, i will try and find the thread

Just do an edit. It will feel like you had a cam put in.

I know Jim Mock do cams for VCT also

i have seen people get in excess of 140rwkw with the usual mods and a vct engine... again different dynos etc... but i do realise the point of your car is to MODIFY it!
but the question about JMM that practically asks itself... why do they have an aftermarket cam available when no one else does? surely someone can make one that will run it properly!

get the car flash tuned and turn the vct off if you want or tune the engine and adjust the vct to get more gains it would be better than putting a hot cam in the engine

have you guys experimented at all with the SOHC VCT motors/cams Herrod??
i guess if sombody can get the specific information on how the VCT operates we could then look into what way to get a cam ground to suit etc ??

I know you can get cams for the XR6Ts etc and hell even the SR20 and RB25/26 motors have more aggressive cams available (yes they are turbo and DOHC but thats
beyond the point)
if the cam you got ground from a billet was of a spec that fitted where you WANT the specs to be once its kicked over(after the advancment occurs(if thats all it does)
then I don't understand how there could be ANY problem?
