I would assume that if there is sufficient shielding for the filter then the amount of warm air ingested by the engine would be kept at a minimum, the intercooler does cool only slightly, however if the air through the filter is warmer than normal, more than likely you would loose performance... diesels seem to be funny when it comes to air.... Im not too sure how the DuraTorq engines manage this (havent looked into schematics and diagrams) but the standard airbox, does insulate from heat better than a pod would, but if you have to go for a pod, find some ally sheeting that you can cut and bend into shape and find some sealing to run on the edges to prevent cutting of anything from the edge. I would also assume a means of securing the pod aswell for the legalities (different under each state)... but to my understanding a pod on a diesel will not have a huge difference as is expect when it comes to the petrols variants.

To my mind air is air, and the more and colder it is the better. If they use a similar intake setup to the petrol (airbox and a resonator), try pulling the resonator off and running a CAI pipe to it. I'm pretty sure that (as far as performance is concerned) this is at least as good as a podfilter stuck low in the guard.
