Two questions I have about this.

1) Almost all of the "wagon supporters" quote the reason for the wagon preference as infants and strollers or giant dogs etc. Why do you want a performance car for that purpose? Wouldn't safety and reliability be far more important?

2) FTG made a F6 wagon a couple of years ago. It had the ZF and all the Typhoon goodies and they tried to sell it for 30 something thousand. I saw it for sale at the FPV open day. I remember it took weeks if not months to sell. It was such a sales success that I don't think they ever made another.
Now if they have enormous difficulty selling ONE of these in a city the size of Melbourne (mutant central) for $30k, how many will FPV sell for $50-60k?

exactly flappist wagon are not performance cars there family hulers the F6X shows that there not but the F6X may have done better if FPV actually made it look differant to the Terratory ghia

No it was a turbo 6 and it was at the FPV day. If it had stripes or stickers a mob of weird looking people with sideburns, bell bottom jeans, missing teeth and "Bathurst 71" t-shirts would have burned it to the ground while chanting HO HO HO.......

the rear section has probably run its course. the previous wagon ran from ea to el (10yrs) and now au to bf3 (10yrs) however i don't think it looks that bad. i park mine next to a ve hatch and i'm not put off at all. the fact is looks are subjective. what i think looks good, others may think not. i didn't think holden could make the ve any uglier and then they proved me wrong by bringing out the hatch.

Regardless of whether someone needs or wants a wagon or not, would you consider the standard Falcon wagon to be one of the better looking wagons on the market? Yes or no.

I can tell you, if I had money to burn, it would be a project to do this. Not so much to sell, but for something to build unique.

Though the FTG "Tsunami" was a BA to BF/F6 specs. It was a whole conversion wasn't it?
Surely if you grabbed the latest BF wagon, most of this would bolt straight in, thus saving extra $$$....

Would anyone who is advocating a performance/tarted up wagon buy an XR6 wagon for 40K? Or would you all wait till Fowles auction them off for 13K in two years?

personally, yes i do like the current wagon. i wouldn't buy one otherwise!

I think most of the ones wanting a "performance" wagon would be in the latter category.. once they've got their license that is..

Current Falcon wagon looks great, for a mid 90's car. It looks very dated and I would never buy one new that's for sure. There are some great looking wagons, but not as practical as they all taper the roof line down at the rear.

Performance/luxury wagons just dont sell well enough here in Oz to justify the investment. Maybe Holden betted they could get away with it thanks to potential exports but that'd be the only reason.

If Ford Oz had the chance, Im sure theyd make a ripper wagon for the private individual, but they simply cant afford to make a 'Sportwagon'. They couldnt raise the capital needed and if they had access to the cash, the project wouldnt pay for itself. This is why we didnt get an FG Fairlane either.

I think the AU Fairmont Ghia wagon in black with opt. XR 17s was quite a nice looking sports/luxury wagon, as was the series 2 SR wagon, but BA and beyond Ford accepted (some would say pushed) the wagon's fate in mainstream Aussie motoring. The Territory was a much smarter investment.

Fords decision to not make a new Fairlane seems pretty justified after last months sales figures for the Statesman/Caprice were released, less than 200 between them. The LWB Luxury market has died off massively over the past few years.

The EB1 was the last model to have a Fairmont Ghia wagon. You could get an AU Fairmont wagon though.
