Yeah, its all worked out, lol. We get a few weeks to tune our cars, then it will be phased out. Then they are offering a program to upgrade to x3. Herrods site says it tunes BA on, where as charlie is saying it does AU as well. So who knows.
Ill be getting the tune next monday, and then Ill be not buying another SCT product unless I get my $595 back that I payed for my tuner.

Good to see that all this is worked out.

Still, depending on the cost to upgrade to the X3 i still think some of you guys should be looking at the moates gear, especially for those of you running less modified / unopened engines I think it'd be a great tool as if something goes gang then (for example) a replacement I6 is only a few hundred bucks, which may still put you in front cost wise to upgrade to the X3... . For those of us with $10k+ engines, it would be a cheaper option, but still negates the need to have someone else tune it (unless your really game :P)

But all in all, a good outcome for AU owners, not ideal, but far from the doom and gloom it appeared to be at the start of all this

Hmm, I love it if I had a hands on crash course in this. 5.0whiteaughia - I reckon if we all got together for you to show us how simple it may be, you could really make a day of it, and we could all learn something from it while having fun with our cars. Could be a good option I reckon.

Yeah it would be good to be able to do that blueoval, the unfortunate fact that everyone lives in a different state is a bit of an issue. But in all seriousness, if a couple of us got together for a day, then i got do a run thru, we could even do some tune's on some to get them close to being spot on and so on.

Cam - From what i have seen your just as likely to have your engine blown up by a tuning workshop as u are by urself. And as far as changeability goes, its open to as much as u want to change it. According to my info u cant change RPM tuning points with the sct software, well u can on this, and u can do real time tuning, enabling u to get a more accurate tune, so which one should u be using on the cheaper engine?

Where i personally see this being the big advantage for is the people who are constantly doing changes, who are happy to buy a wideband and datalogger and keep track of it all, and then do a re tune themselve's after each mode is done.

I think a first step would be in organising a bulk buy for the required gear, this way i think it would be more simple as to attract more people to join in.
5.0whiteaughia, i was searching through related threads, and is it true for the AU, the ecu needs to be taken out and modified a little?

Yes bloggs24 that is true and thankyou for bringing that up, the J3 port is covered in a type of silicon from factory and needs to be cleaned by first scraping it all off and making sure u get rid of it all, and then a wipe over with some thinners on a rag to get all remaining off.

Also on S1 eec's, there is a simple 2 solder pad joint that needs to be done. From what i have seen S2 onwards dont require it, actually just seems to be the eec's that are screwed in not pot riveted.

Here is some instructions, taking off the chip touque website.

http://www.chiptorque.com.au/PDF/For...nstruction.pdf

Just don't actually solder the socket pins like chip torque recommend, it is not necessary, and if done to thick u end up with a chip thats no good because it damages the pins.

True, I would prefer someone with years of experience in tuning a vehicle, rather then me with an IT background, reasonable mechanical knowledge, and no tuning experience playing with my rather expensive engine that I cant afford to replace :P On the other hand, I'd happily play with my EB until the cows came home, perhaps be a worthwhile way to learn the basics? Maybe I need to finally convince the missus to sell her swift for an AU I6...

yes well that is true cam, why not learn on a car u dont care about, either way if u are carefull and dont go making rediculous stupid changes, then it is pretty safe. What u need to look out for is detonation, in which u can put a knock sensor in your car with a light that flashes when it does.

Either way, the guys who are good at tuning these cars have an IT background.

i think this would be a great setup as me and deb both have AU VCT lanes.. so if we get the full setup then get a 2nd chip can save heaps of cash if we have the same mods

well actually balckers10, u can program 2 completely different tunes to each car, cause u would have a chip burner to write a different program to each if u wished.

Will this software be useable with say an EF as well as an AU?

Guys,

We have definitions to support EF/EL editing as well as a locally designed and built J3 chip available at http://www.tiperformance.com.au . AU definitions are hopefully coming soon!
