They have to be set up at a certain distance and angle. So if the car is off the road they have to leave the camera outside. They can be set up for both approaching and passing traffic and the range on them is quite good.

Off topic, they caught a man smashing a Multinova mobile speed camera. Operator feared for his life, but not enough to stop him taking pictures on his mobile and apperantly they cost 120,000 each. Not that you should believe anything printed in the West Australian.

What was the query again?

I have noticed that they no longer put out the signs infront of the cars anymore.. there was a nissan patrol on the M1 last week with no sign / no markings.... I can't believe in QLD the government put signs up to notify speeders that there is a camera approaching.. it kinda defeats the purpose doesnt it? I dont recall them putting signs up 1 km and 500 m ahead of the old hair dryer setups...

QLD used to be cool, but as soon as Captain Bligh came in she stuffed everything up. We didn't even want her, shouldn't there have been some sort of by-election?

Sorry, I just think that's pretty funny.

Cop the fine on the chin mate. You broke the law, you got caught. I reckon 10km over the limit in most places isn't going to kill people. But, the law is the law. If you don't like it, don't drive.

Adelaide uses ford ba series wagons and always in conspicuous locales ie: the grassland as you approach town, on roads where a yellow line has been painted next to the kerb so you obviously can't park there, and very quiet main roads where no traffic parks. They stand out like the obvious DB's that they are but still managed to get me once. Only once I might add.. Anyone caught speeding probably was speeding, but then it's funny you see so many people who raise the roof about clamping down on it....and yet just about all the driver fatalities involving speed were for speeds more than 30km/h over the speed limit....not 69 in a 60 zone....... I don't condone speed, but nor do I see the point of speed cameras in built up suburban roads where achieving speeds above 60 is pretty difficult anyway...

In Qld there are warning signs for the few FIXED speed cameras around Brisbane, there are no fixed cameras anywhere else in the state...YET

The cameras in the cars normally have the little sign somewhere nearby, but not in an obvious spot, it's still the law here as far I know.

Northern NSW Pacific Highway has fixed cameras and warning signs too.

The people in blue in WA are informed where the camera's are located at any given time and are told to do welfare checks on the drivers every now and then due the abuse some of the camera's get. Camera operators used t o park outside the Perth Casino but that was put on hold to the local rangers issuing parking fines to all the camera cars.

When i drove around Australia a couple of years ago i followed a few cars thru marked fixed cameras and was surprised at how many were flashed.

Not sure what other states are like but as stated earlier all we have to do is notify that you wish to see the photo's and they provide the proofs but to be charged a fee for evidence the state uses against you is a bit much

yep they do alright .......RIGHT just in front of the car, facing the oncoming traffic so when you see the sign Its WAY,WAY too late,(if your speeding, that is) :
