Default G6ET "one of the best Aussie built cars ever"

Finally an unbiased media report ... G6ET v Calais. Well worth the read ..
http://yahoo.carsales.com.au/reviews...lais-v-v8-6722

The summary .....
"But the Holden, though a fine car, is bested by the G6E Turbo in too many other disciplines. The Ford's performance is profoundly impressive, especially considering its efficiency advantage. Handling and general refinement are better, and despite costing less, its interior is classier and cleverer. Not only is the G6E Turbo winner of this sports-luxury sedan comparison, it's also one of the best cars Australia has ever produced"

Quoted the 6L power output as 270kw and fuel at 95RON. Its only at 270kw at 98RON.

Apart from that pretty good.

Ah nice.. finally a comparo between the two!

I think the G6E T wins alone for the interior... Im convinced its the best car Ford has ever built.

It's beyond me how they think the Calais V looks better from the outside- It's a good looking car, but I rekon the G6ET dumps all over it.

I think Holden's styling is appalling. I saw a VE 10 minutes ago and thought it looked craphouse.

The only VEs I can bear to look at are HSVs.

The FG G6E looks brilliant to me.

Nice to see that they preferred the actual driving of the G6E. Kind of makes a good reason to buy one...

Also proof that Holden's don't always "Go Better".

Which isn't saying much given that that the G6E is ugly as a hat full.

Very nice ride. I was told by dealer an employee can get one at the moment brand new on road for 40k!

Yep they are a winner. There are several of them lurking around here.

Shame about the lack of LSD but I suspect it may appear on a later model although no one seems to have made any special comments on them as fas as traction is concerned no maybe it is not needed.

Agreed, the VE looks so ordinary now, since the newness of the VE has worn off. Very ordinary, even the "Sport" wagon.

However, regardless of these articles more people will still buy the Calais thinking they are the better car.

BTW, have you seen a G6E in the dark with headlights and foglights on, coming up behind? They do look a bit strange....

Brilliant article, if only all comparos were like that. It was either motor or wheels that compared a Calais V V8 and G6ET a few months back, honours went to the G6ET but it was like the journo was being forced to praise the Ford and continuously harrped on about the Calais. Any way good find

I don't understand why or how the VE can look better. It (the VE) does have a good looking mid-section but the front aged before it was released, and the back end is quite hideous, and then you have those flares. Proportion means nothing if it doesn't look good.

I believe that the article was written by John Carey, easily the best out of the Wheels journo's. It's guys like him that help balance out the mag from some of the freelance contributors. I don't see how he harped on about the Holden though - especially when he says the refinement of the G6ET is just on another level altogether. On another note, that same writer also reviewed the Sportswagon against the Tez this month - Tez won.

It's a shame that the better car never wins the sales race FG vs VE & Territory vs Sportwagon.

Kind of like how everyone says Danny Green is a better boxer than Mundine, At the end of the day, Mundine handed Green his **** on a plate..........

I'll buck the trend and say that I loved the look of the VE Calais, very tough looking executive car.

I just don't see any "toughness" about any of the FG range (bar the Super Pursuit) though I expect it will look fresher much longer than the VE did.

Don't worry mate, I will join you in the trenches, I also like the VE Calais, would never buy one but I don't think they are the anti-christ of car design as depicted on this forum. A work mate recently purchased a SS-V, very nice car but once again, It won't be seeing my hard earned.

the outside of a car is personal ,i think they can look quite tough in their respective sports models .in the lower end the fg eats it for class .but that interior of holdens is cheap crud ,no matter what side of the fence your on .hope our fg gets the sales it deserves regardless of what holden sell .I think its classy looks are pulling some people in ,it obviously wont get the hsv guys ,but it should get the accord ,bmw type looking .

In my personal experience with the G6ET, I still have to give it a great wrap. I had been shopping for an IS250, 320i, C200k and when I finally went and drove a G6ET, I was gobsmacked when the closest comparison I could draw of the cars above was with the IS250.

The IS250 was a dramatically better car than the BMW & Merc in style, fitout, quality and drive. The G6ET was easily the closest (still short but waaay ahead of the other two) for comfort & feel - drivewise, the G6ET killed them all... easily.

The lower spec BMW & Mercs just don't hold a candle to the G6ET, apart from the badge and likely better service, these cars have no redeeming features against the G6ET, let alone the IS250.

The G6ET was $55k drive away, the IS250 was $56k drive away, the 320i was $60k drive away and the C200K was $70k.

And to make the Ford even more attractive, you can get nearly $10,000 off that price if you shop around!!
