Default Viper SRT-10 ACR beats Corvette ZR-1 around the Nurburgring.

Just found out that Dodge Viper SRT-10 ACR did 7mins 22sec around the Nurburgring.

Impressive.

EDIT :- Oh here's the video... enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ocm0tySUYGM

Sweet Sweet DODGE........... what a monster........

Looks like some tool in the comments made on youtube under the video said yeah but the nissan is faster...........lol

You mean the Viper time? You are correct. He missed gears once or twice and bounced off the rev limiter at least 10 or 12 times. It was only his 4th lap in a Viper ever. Toshio Suzuki on the other hand has more time in GT-Rs than anyone. The GT-R was purpose-built for the ring, the ACR wasn't. Go there with an ACR properly geared for the track and driven by someone familiar with Vipers and you 'll see times closer to 7:10 than 7:20.
Quote:
Yes, none you idiot. No car is geared perfectly for every track. The car that just broke the record and beat the V-Spec time in spite of missed shifts and tons of time spent bouncing off the rev limiter is a crap car? You have to be the most stupid ****** on Youtube. I was SRT certified when I worked for Dodge and have had a ton of seat time in Vipers and I have years of racing experience. You? Sure, a car "with only brute power" is going to run 7:22 at the 'ring. YOU ARE ******* BRAINDEAD.

How much quicker would it be with a decent shifter for quick gear changes and someone who would drive it properly without bouncing it off the limiter constantly before shifting?

Yeh, the car would go faster if they fiddle around with the gearing a bit.

Ha ha! yeah the viper needs a short shifter for sure!! I have a cousin here in Adelaide wit a 97 RT10. The shifter is like a tractor!! (Worse than our old VYSS 6 speeder manual)
Im sure the srt10s are better but geez, looks like a pretty long throw to me!

Would still buy one in an instant, but ACR Viper... pffft.. Its a hennessey 1000 one all the way for me..! ;-)

With the number of corners at the 'ring, it would be impossible to gear it "properly" for the track. Some corners it is right, some it isn't. I can see why he'd rather hit the limiter than upshift - that gearbox needs a bit of coaxing!

A lot of te time tha he hit the rev limiter he was close to the next corner, either bounce the limiter or short shift it. In a good sequential box you would short shift but that gear box, with a lot of missed shifts, bounce the limiter.

Towards the end it sounds as if those tyres were getting pretty average with what appears to be a fair amount of understeer.

I would still love a hot lap in that though. I wish we had some decent length race tracks. Makes Mt Panorama look like a warm up ciruit.

Ah thank you so very much for posting this, I've always loved the Viper and constantly tried to back up the fact is DOES handle as well as pull like a train, always had some guy try slag it off saying the Vette is a better car. The Coupe grabbed the Z06 by the balls and everyone said "oh but wait for the ZR-1, this will be the snake skinner, the Viper will have no chance yadda yadda" and now what will they say about this. Dont get me wrong I still admire the ZR-1 and would love it sitting in my driveway but this just proves the Viper is still on top and Dodge won't back down.... pitty it will cease production but at least it went out with a mighty bang

Bit of a different story to the ZR-1 and GTR though. Its a car that is clearly built for track use.

not really.. notice how he hits the rev limitre for about a second, before he slows for a corner or downshifts, if he tried to go up a gear, .5second throttle, then down 2 pegs it would slow him down much more.

They are all street legal, so that statement is a wash.

LOL! "Street Legal" in about 3 states of the USA such as Texas, Kentucky, Alabama etc.

I've got a pic somewhere of a "street legal" Texan Porsche that has it's 2 turbos hanging about an inch off ground out the back with absolutely no mufflers or cats.

Still very, very impressive car though. :

I dont see the ACR with no muffler or 2 slugs hanging out the bonnet, I know what your trying to say but its a well packaged car with nothing out the ordinary except that wing maybe
