Australia as I said has a Holden following...largely due to the fact that they've won Bathurst and the Touring Cars so many times. Australia is a bandwagon following.

I know that many people who say, "I prefer Holden. They are more Australian."
They then sound bloody shocked when I say, "Actually, the Commodore contains less Australian-made parts then the Ford Falcon, and is based on Opel designs from Europe. The Falcon has been Australian designed and built since 1972."

Ford should nail the point home that the Falcon IS the TRUE Aussie car, and Aussies drive responsibly.

i don't know what it is but it just seems like the sort of people that like cruising around town all day lookin cool seem to mainly go for the holdens. i have no idea what it is but it is true.
not that it matters or has anything to do with it. but i was suprised to find that the ford v8 is the only v8 to be assembled in Australia. i was a little proud of that :

OK.
This Friday, someong needs to go to Noble Park Macca's and do a model count.

Post up results (as soon as you are released from jail, lol) and we will see.

Anyway, to be honest. I don't know if Commodore drivers are more likely to hoon or whether hoons prefer to buy Commodores.

The P76 had an Australian designed and built 4.4 litre
Holden geared up for the all Australian designed V8 in 1968 and made small block 253, 308 and 350s until the LS1 was introduced in 1999.

I think holmsy was refering to the current V8 Ford motors which is the only assembled v8 in Australia atm.

The p76 is a Leyland / Rover Englsih V8 based on a Buick, hardly Australian designed.

Holden never made 350s, it was a 348 stroker from the 304 V8 in the last HSVs before using the GEN III

to be honest.. those figures sound about right, but in WA i'd say the imports are right up with the commodores.. but above the falcons anyway

Didn't Holden manufacture engines like the Starfire, Family II and Global V6 and export them around the world? I think there was something like 3 million plus small engines exported by 2000 and there are around 150 thousand V6s exported each year.

Does this qualify the recipient vehicles as Australian? Well it must be, given the constant references to foreign content in Holdens making it non Australian?

It seems to me that a lot of Ford enthuisists have a problem identifying the difference between a Windsor and Cleveland and I would be pretty certain they would also have a hard time distinguishing those from a Chev or Pontiac V8 too if all were painted the same colour. We know that the Cleveland was developed by ex GM guys so to say that an Australian V8 is really a Chev V8 is to say that the Cleveland is really a Chev too. How many ways can you modify a V8 until is has no relationship to others?

Holden does not make 350 v8S

The 304 was destroked as we all know to allow it to race in Group A.
The rules provided that the in the Group A class, the Commodore must be under 5.0 litres.

100% certian of the Leyland V8 as well.

Its easy to tell the difference between a Windsor and Cleverland.

The British Leyland small block V8 was also a pushrod OHV engine, however it was an all alloy block like the British Rover V8 it was based on. The stroke was increased to give it a capacity of 4.4L. The motor was originally designed and fitted to the Leyland P76 sedan.

Thanks for that. The car is located in one of my industrial sheds with neighbours who make a living building hot rods, drag cars, etc. As usual they offer no advice except "you won't be able to do it". So I made sure the roller shutter was up one day and the alpha steering installed.

Next thing I have the industry guru on suspension and steering front up to tell me how it can't be done, so I showed him and the entourage how it can be done. I connected the electronic dial gauges and show him there is no bump steer, but desirable camber.

He then told me the ackerman would be wrong, so I took out my lasers and showed him that the knuckle arm incidence lines intersect at the centre of the pumkin .... I get sideways looks these days

I've been so busy I haven't done anything for a few months, but hoping to get back into the swing of things shortly.
