Default JMM CAI - EL CAI in General

Does anyone have any pics? Or know what it consists of?

In their parts list it mentions that for $390 you get a Ultra-Flow Intake Kit, 3" Mandrel, Coated, incl filter, etc, but thats also installed.

Is this very different from the Pod Hi-Flow Air Conversion Kit which retails for $190?

I figured if I pick up the parts it cant be that hard to install, a bolt on kind of thing.

Or is that a waste of time? What have other EF/EL owners done?

Would it be better to just go to an exhaust shop and get a 3' mandrel bent pipe made up, throw a filter on the end and then put that in the standard box?

I'd suggest an ELGT snorkel and a good filter. Save your pennies for more worthwhile mods ;) A lot of that money could go into your upcoming cam!

*EDIT* you might already have one, since you have a Tickford motor. I'm unsure whether Ghias got the larger snorkel or not.

Sure, overall a custom intake setup *will* help deliver more air, but for a stock-ish 4.0 you don't really need to go beyond the ELGT snorkel (or a trimmed AU Tickford snorkel) and a decent filter.

Yeah EL GT snorkel was going to happen, just been lazy about it really. I already have a K&N panel filter so I guess thats done then...LOL

Ghias came with povo standard snorkel, at least I a pretty sure, either way its not big.

Well I'd give the custom intake a miss all the same. Hunt down an ELGT snorkel on ebay or from a wrecker...

Been there, done that. Don't bother. That is unless you want it there because it looks good, which it does but as for improving performance it is minimal at best.

throw filter in the box with el gt snorkel

you only need a elbow peice about 40odd cm's long as the rubber bend and plastic that sits on the rocker cover is good for heat compared to a mandrel equivelant

Hmm

Thanks for the info guys, looks like I might just stick with the EL GT snorkel then. You can get one from SVO for like $60, so I think your paying roughly $15-20 for the SVO badge as its exactly the same as an EL GT version.

Oh yeah, and it will be 100% new products here on in _2:

Agreed - alot of write ups on the net about it as well, I actually saw somewhere where someone had graphs from stock to complete modified intake set up and the different inductions was not worth the cost.

The G&D intake flows 8rwkw more at idle than the JMM one, G&D even proved it on their dyno, so it must be true.

That definitely looks the part, I was quoted $80 for the pipe work, which seems pretty reasonable.
