Default A quick XR6?

Hi. Got a 5sp ED XR6 (stock). Umm...I know it's got quite a bit of torque and am I right in saying that it was quicker than the 8 when it came out?

But also...I've a mate with a VQ Statesman and a VN 5L (both stock) who reckons that he would maul me in either car. Whereas I argued that I thought it would be close depending on my take-off. Without actually testing it for ourselves any idea as to the result? Anyone have any stats or have heard of previous results? Need to be able to relay some stats or results to him...

There's so many variables to take into consideration. K's and condition of each car, driver ability etc. Is the VQ a 5L as well? If not, you'll probably cane it. What sort of VN is it? SS, Calais, Berlina, Exec? auto or manual?

Like I said. There's way too many variables to say which would be the quickest.

I would think that both cars would be neck and neck. The VN 5L may be a V8 but the XR6 has almost the same power output.

Lol. I love the good ol' days when sixs acutally could beat V8's.

VN Berlina 5L...VQ Statesman 5L...autos. He keeps em in pretty good nick...both are over the 200k mark but run nicely. Driver ability is always a factor of course. But if that were pushed aside...then yeah it would be interesting. Yeah one day we'll venture down the strip...

Ha the very first time i went to the drags at ravenswood i had a yarn to the guy at the gate about my xd six he said it wouldnt do better than a 17 because thats wot his stock vq stato did, anyway pulled a 15.8 with just a tq 20 cam and a holley. I would take him up on his offer and blow his doors off the stato and maybe get close to the vn.Who gives a shit if u dont win

Just out of interest it was Kevin Bartlett doing the driving for this test!!

All cars tested were autos.

An EA 5-speed MPFI would probably be a good 1-1.5 seconds quicker.

The day after i got my license a VS Statesman 5.0l lined up against me in my EB XR6 5 SPD.
I left it for dead at the line and never seen it again.
Also my car is completely standard and the VS had extractors an exaust and 17" rims and lowered springs.
I think the makor issue the VS had was its weight

By the sounds of it, you didn't know the person who was drivng the statesmen, so how did you know it had extractors?

17 sec 400m for VR SS is a load of puss, and IMHO, your XR6 would be even or beat the VQ(because of weight) , but the VN will smoke you,
