ive run it before.. I'm guessing waste of money as it shows same figures as straight 98 octane. basically its 98 octane with ethanol in it hence 100 octane.

My car loves it.For me its worth 20hp over ultimate and some noticable torque.More timing is allowed basically.520kms from 60ltrs

For me I found my engine has started to miss after a tankful, which i was unhappy about ! I went back to regular 98 with no ethanol and after about half a tank of that it cleared up, maybe i had a dodgy batch, but after all it is united.

Currently my local shell (sydney-pennant hills rd) sells V-Power 98
most expensive day is $1.67 cheapest is $1.44 (with voucher ;)

Fuel gauge drops a lot quicker thats' for sure.

The United 100 pump I filled from makes no mention of any ethanol content,
(else I wouldn't have used it.)

I was very careful to look around and check that,in fact the 98 pumps in the adjacent pump mentioned ethanol, the 100 pump did not at all.


But reading this link it seems it DOES contain ethanol.

No more for me....

I used the united 100 ethanol blend, big difference. No dramas here, and though its said to burn quicker i still get 500 plus kms, and thats using alot of the right foot.

With Ethanol blends, every 10% ethanol adds as a rule of thumb a 3% increase in consumption. This is because of the lower energy content.

If your car is tuned or can use it's knock sensors to either retard less or advance more timing the difference will be lower.

Some who'se fuel gauges are dropping faster with it are probably just using the extra power that the extra timing allows.

Just about anything with boost will respond very well. Notice the guys in the threads with turbos are the ones who love it most!

PS Wish it was sold in Newcastle. I'd run my Ute on it.

The united I filled up at with 100 mentioned it had ethanol, that why I only put a quarter of a tank in.

Increased engine wear. IIRC Ethanol doesn't burn as efficiently, so comsumption can increase?

I think at 10% engine wear wouldn't be affected.
Consumption will increase by less than 3%

Lubrication of piston rings in spark ignition 4 stroke engines is a result of traces of lubricating oil trapped between rings and combustion chamber wall. It is not due to the lubricating qualities of the motor spirit, so the impact of ethanol in this part of the engine will be negligible.

Lubrication of other components such as fuel pumps of moving fuel system components is, however, dependent on the lubricating property of the fuel. In these cases ethanol contents of up to 10% have not been shown to cause excessive / noticeable wear in any other countries where Shell markets ethanol containing fuels.

Shell has extensive experience with biofuels and is the largest global retailer of ethanol containing fuels. Shell markets ethanol containing petrol in several countries and has no records of adverse lubrication issues relating to these fuels. Also, a review of the available literature / studies also does not indicate that fuel system wear due to lack of lubrication is an issue.

Myth 3. Ethanol can corrode fuel lines or anything rubber, including seals.

Ethanol in high concentrations has been known to affect some plastic and rubber fuel system components. However, it is advisable to check the FCAI web site - opens in new window or contact your vehicle’s manufacturer to determine if there are any compatibility issues with particular makes and models.

Myth 4. Ethanol always reduces fuel economy.

Like regular Shell Unleaded, Shell Unleaded E10 contains Shell's exclusive Fuel Economy Formula, which is designed to help improve fuel economy by reducing efficiency losses caused by engine deposits.*

Ethanol has a lower energy value than regular petrol, however, when ethanol is blended into petrol at 10%, its effect on fuel efficiency is reduced proportionally. In fact, driving style and driving conditions will have a greater impact on fuel economy than the presence of 10% ethanol.
