Default Toyota FT-86

http://news.drive.com.au/drive/motor...302-1be0b.html

Definetly be keeping an eye out on this car.

I must admit, i was never a fan of toyota to begin with, but there is know denying the fact that they are releasing some quality cars at decent prices.

This good enough?

This is Scion's version of the same car. For those who don't know, Scion is the "youth" moniker Toyota uses for certain models in the states. One of their models is the xB which made it to Australia as the Toyota Rukus.

On topic, the car looks pretty damn good for a Toyota. As of late, Toyota's cars have looked 'modern' for the sake of it (with one exception that I can think of right now), and I'm glad to see that this is an exception. Even though it does look modern, thankfully Toyota didn't forget to make it look GOOD. Do I sense a return to the days of the Supra?

And, for the record, I don't agree that Toyota makes quality cars at decent prices?

Well it’s a prototype, and like every prototype it looks a lot better than the actual car …

Watch the wheels replaced with something much cheaper, watch the suspension height suddenly increase to 4WD standards, watch all the leds either go or replaced with something really cheap, the nice looking spoiler lips and aero bits will go too … and what you will be left with is a generic looking coupe …

Also I cannot possibly imagine Toyota putting any decent engine in there (did they previously say a Subaru NA engine LOL), weight wise it will probably be over 1.5 tons, and don’t expect the suspension or brake to be anything awe inspiring …

Lastly the 30K price will most probably be 39.9K for the base version.

Same I do like the look of this car, will be interesting to see how it comes out in production (usually they make the production cars more conservative whcih is a shame)

I believe that is the "production ready" version.

The "concept car" ewas actually much more sedate looking and not so "out there" at the front and rear. Oddly enough, this time the production car is more radical looking than the concept...and that doesn't happen very damn often...

Its a formula that is pretty hard to stuff up, it will all come down to styling. Good on them.

Yes. This whole coupe project is a joint project between Toyota and Subaru.

Subaru's version, of course, will no doubt be AWD turbo. The Toyota version will enter Australia with an NA 4cylinder I'm lead to believe.

Pretty sure they are both coming with N/A 2.0 Boxers and RWD.... No turbos or AWD for Subaru... yet. (http://www.autoblog.com/2011/06/01/s...-turbocharged/)

If you were unaware, Toyota is the major shareholder of Fuji Heavy Industries which owns Subaru.

Which is why there are no longer any good looking Subarus. This ended with the 4th Generation Liberty.

Think a was reading a couple of months ago that Subaru Australia hadn't decided if they would import it or not. Because it goes against how they market them in Australia, with all being AWD etc.

It will be on stand at the Melbourne Motor show.

They are still calling it a concept, so its highly likely the production version will be tamed down considerable considering its a Toyota. Some of those things on the concept are definately not production ready.
