Angry Oh FFS! I just got it fixed.

For those who read my posts, they will know in October I bent my new Falcon because African youths were carelessly meandering across a road like they were on the African Savannah.

Just got it fixed a few weeks ago. This afternoon I was helping a friend who is building his house. Car is parked outside from 2pm to 6:30pm. Go to leave only to discover the driver's side mirror is smashed and hanging on by the cables. Nobody around, no witnesses and no messages left on the car.

Went home to check the dash camera footage. Sure enough about 4:30pm the incident was clearly captured. The driver of the other car slowed but did not stop. A copy of the video was supplied to the Police who will issue a 'hit and run' report so the other motorist will be in for a shock very soon.

Motto of the story: if don't have a dash camera I strongly recommend you get one.
Another word of advice: do something and think nobody saw you? Think again.

Which brand of dash cam do you have and do you have it wired to permanent power with ignition off or just rely on its internal battery?

BlackSys BL 100N. Wired to permanent power from the vehicle battery.

It was installed by the dealer for $500 when I purchased the FG X earlier this year. Today it repaid itself.

Absolute gold!!!!!

I’ve had the blackvue 2 channel for years which is priceless. Mine is set up with the ‘magic pro box’ - when I get out of the car I switch it on and it records front and rear whilst it’s parked.

I hope you get some satisfaction after the Police are finished. During the renovations of a house across the road from me the builders XR8 ute had its mirror broken 3 times in the near 10 month build. and he did everything but park it on top of the gum tree on the nature strip to stay as much off the road as possible but with a loaded trailer everyday is wasn't easy.

That rabbits' foot you were sold was a cat's paw. Throw it in the bin or shove it down the throat of the bugger you got it from. But seriously, there are some mongrels around....and they'll get to breed.

I submitted the video to the 'Dash Cam Owners Australia' Youtube channel but they do not want to publish it. Maybe not 'funky' enough.

So I created my own channel to see if I can make it visible to anybody who may be interested.

It's one of the reasons why I always fold my mirror in when parked on side streets... That extra 3 inches less can make a difference.

In shopping centre car parks, I often will fold both of them in... Shopping trollies being one of the worst offenders.

How wide is the space on the road where you parked?

While it sucks they took off your mirror, after watching the footage I'm thinking you are lucky you didn't lose the front of the Falcon! That hit was a lot bigger than I thought it would be. And no doubt he knew he hit something, the asshat.

If that commodore ute was parked there on the day you were hit, I'd be putting money on that white car moving over, forcing the Honda onto yours. People don't seem to see the need to slow down in narrow lanes, and wouldn't have been able to stop if someone crossed onto their side by a few inches.

Agreed.

Still no reason why they couldn't/shouldn't have owned up to it, tho. This sort of stuff annoys me these days. It seems as though anything bad that happens is always someone else's fault.

Nailed it.

They should have been driving to the conditions, and been able to stop if the other car moved into their lane.

But even so, none of any of that is a reason not to stop after the impact.

Yep, tight street and parked cars forcing the traffic to squeeze.
The car parks are more suited to motorbikes

It appears now that some posters are somehow trying to suggest it is Syndromes fault for being parked where he was.If the Honda driver thought the space was too narrow he/she should have stopped and let the white car through first, but I guess that would take 10 precious seconds out of their day

No it is the Councils fault for approving and building cheaparse narrow roadways when there are huge footpath areas available. Cost cutting at it's finest.
All the new3 estates do it too as they save a fortune in road costs but 2 cars can't pass safely when anyone is parked there.
And then you park on the footpath and the Council ranger gives you a ticket.
Bureaucrasy at work.

The fault lies purely with the driver who hit him. Yes, the park spot is narrow, and perhaps the Ford owner could have tilted his mirror in but you see the white car coming the other way? He leaves plenty of room from the middle line but the culprit is clearly one of the millions of people with appalling spacial awareness. That is so common, everyday I see people, many in SUV/4WD who slow down and or move as close to the middle of the road as possible when there are cars parked on both sides. They think the passenger side of their car is going to hit the parked car....If I ever have to park my good car anywhere, I never leave it anywhere it can be hit by anything. Quite often this involves a bit of a extra walk but the piece of mind is worthwhile.

Not unlike people who rent Avis/Budget Trucks, most have no idea where the left side of the Truck is

Most of them also forget the big box right behind their shoulder when changing lanes on the freeway too. They think the vehicle ends at the back of the cab......

Are the police going to be taking any further action, for example, charges for failing to stop and give details after an accident?

What if the other person refuses to pay? Will you take civil action?
