Default not in a gay way though... :)

Hi folks, a young fella at the gym turned 21 on the weekend and I'd like to get him something (refer to title of thread at this point). He's always respectful toward me and a decent young fella who's training to be a chef.

He's into motor bikes and, obviously, the gym. Can anyone suggest a decent prezzie for a young fella like that. cheers.

Perhaps a good light backpack with a drinkbottle? Something he will use quite a bit not a throw away item.

As Barge said all depends on $$$

When I was doing my apprenticeship a friend gave me a paring knife with my name engraved on it for my kit. Still got it today. Was a great gift. Worth a thought

Excellent suggestions folks! Thanks for the input.
The gift voucher to Rebel and bike shop and the engraved paring knife are great ! Never heard of thrillbillies but I'll check it out too. I knew I could count on you all for help.

$100 or so should do it I guess. He's just a training buddy but the gym is pretty boring without him and considering I'm twice his age (+ a bit), he respects me and I appreciate respect a great deal.

I'd second that. Its not your good non-gay intentions you worry about its about how he would perceive receiving a gift from an older guy at the gym.

It depends on how well you think you know him. If you are only gym buddies, then maybe a carton of beer would suffice?

If nothing else I've been thoroughly entertained by the answers - very funny guys.

The result is:- I got him a Ran Damascus Paring knife (http://www.kingofknives.com/online/i...an-Knives.html )

Japanese made from folded steel in a traditional fashion.
Thanks for the input everyone.

Nice classy gift - your good at investing (correct me if I am wrong) maybe just give him some advice from time to time - i am sure he would appreciate it and the information learnt could save him some $$$ for later in life and it costs you next to nothing (apart from time)

Thanks SB - That's a good suggestion and probably the best present he could get in the long run - but like a lot of young fella's, mine included, he may not realise it's value until much later. Anyway, he knows I'd help him with that sort of thing anytime he wants, he only has to ask, there are no secrets to it.

I learnt the hard way (didnt know anyone with any market knowledge or investment knowlegde) I lost a fair amount of $$$$ on what i now consider dumb mistakes. Good advice is invaluable, if he is reasonably smart he will listen he might still want to do things his own way which is important but your advice might stop him making some mistakes and I am sure he would appreciate it
